Tragedy + Time = Comedy. It doesn't have to be a looks thing, it can be emotional as well. When I have met funny and very attractive male or female comics and become friends with them at some point I always ask "So what bad thing happened to you when you were young?" Every single time there has been something that has affected them and basically made their view on the world different.
