Abe's ego is so huge it appears that he can't (initially, at least) conceive of: a) his son - who finished top of his class at MIT, mind - surpassing him b) his daughter - who stands up to him every day - having a mind of her own c) his wife - who lived independently in Paris before they met - having dreams and ambitions of her own* d) his own position (at Bell Labs), not being very significant (*credit where credit is due, Abe arranging for Rose to sit in on some university classes was brilliant, ) I don't know how accurate that is / how much we are supposed to infer, but the poor guy is getting slapped in the face by the Reality Fish over and over and over at the moment. :D

I do feel for him but at the same time he's gotta wake up a little. He's a great man who has achieved a lot and has a very loving family. At the end of the day, they have their own ambitions too and he can't project himself onto every thing.
