Santiano is one of my favourite actors in CXG, and I was disappointed to see that he never came back after season 2. I also felt (initially) that Skylar is too sweet- and young-looking to play Greg. However, when I started to think about Greg's journey and real-life examples of people like him, I realized that having a slightly more "mellow"/sweeter version of Greg in S4 actually makes sense in the story. Having an addiction or any other issue can highlight some character traits that make a person seem more indifferent/snarky/unhinged/darker etc. than they actually are. Underneath all the darkness and desperation, you might have a very sweet, even sensitive person who just does not know how to handle their feelings in a healthy way. While S1-S2 Greg had its own charm (and was played by a wonderful actor), you could argue that S4 Greg is the actual Greg or the Greg that his friends knew before the addiction came along. After rewatching the show, I actually wish the show writers had more guts to make him even more different from the original Greg since that would make sense too. (I've met some people whose personality changed drastically after overcoming an addiction or mental health problems.) But that obviously would have been a risky thing to do and made some people hate the new Greg even more.

That's actually a really cool idea. Lean into the meta ness of it all, while having something really sincere to say.
