The Dress that was used in this episode has quite a story behind it! They knew that it had to be genuinely stunning when it was revealed, and yet the series always operated on a very tight budget. The wardrobe supervisor and Dan Levy independently discovered this one on a retailer's website, but it cost half the episode's budget. They eventually figured out a way to afford it, but then it turned out that the store in NYC wasn't allowed to ship it internationally. So the buyer flew down from Canada with a specially purchased suitcase for it along with the proper paperwork to show customs. And flew into the biggest snowstorm of the year -- her flight was delayed but the store stayed open just for her. So she picked it up and packed it up, but couldn't get out of the city that night. So a night's stay in a NYC hotel had to be added to the budget, before she could finally get a return flight. Fortunately it turned out to fit Catherine O'Hara perfectly, no alterations needed. And she loved it, as everyone else did. I know that's a lot of of detail, but that's a genuinely unique story in the series' history.

Yeah at that point I'd say screw it! Find a new dress! It was stunning though and a really great moment.
