Just a few items of info, and I'll try to avoid spoilers: - "Gilmore Girls" was a comedy/drama created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino, who wrote and/or directed all episodes of "Mrs. Maisel." Their skill with comedic dialogue is up there with Aaron Sorkin. - Both sets of parents do get a lot of screen time throughout the entire show. You will love it. - Susie is played by Alex Borstein, who's been a comedian for years, and is best known as the voice of Lois on "Family Guy." She was also occasionally on "Gilmore Girls"; many actors from "Gilmore Girls" end up with supporting roles on this show. - Regarding opinions about the seasons of this show: I think each season is different, and I liked them all for different reasons. I loved the final season, and felt it was a beautiful wrap-up of Midge's journey. (But I also liked the final episodes of "Lost" and "Game of Thrones", so what do I know?) - Yes, it really was filmed in New York, which is amazing.

Fun fact! When they made the pilot, they did not have any plans for Lenny Bruce to appear past that episode - it was just going to be a one-off cameo from a historical figure. But when they saw Luke Kirby's amazing portrayal, they decided to make him a recurring character. Also, yes, they filmed in New York, and had a couple of stand-up consultants. One of them actually has a minor role in the show.

Technically, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino did not write and direct EVERY episode, just MOST of the episodes. Of the 43 episodes in the show, Amy Sherman-Palladino directed 21, Daniel Palladino directed 14, Scott Ellis directed four, Jamie Babbit directed two, and Daniel Attias and Daisy von Scherler Mayer did one each. In terms of the scripts, that was skewed even more heavily towards Amy and Dan, but there were still a few staff writers such who got an episode or two to their name. Writing is generally very collaborative, and most of the writers on a given season would have had some input on each script, regardless of who got the final credit for it. That being said, the show is definitely the Palladinos' vision through-and-through. It is inspired in large part by Amy's father, who was a standup comic in New York in that era. Of course, it also draws on the life stories of other comics of the time, especially Joan Rivers.
