Either the prequel or sequel series to "Wet American Summer" (that came out decades later with the now 40+yo cast as teenagers) does exactly what you described, having one of the campers literally switch from a child actor to a full adult actor as she has her first period. Though that is a very surreal absurdist franchise so it's probably one of the least weird things they do in the series haha
