First of all, I'm always and forever a Shiv lover and apologist (I'm at the same point in the series as you guys so hopefully that isn't forcefully changed lol). I can understand she's not perfect and inherently IS a bad person, but everyone on this show is so I continue to support her. That back hand reeeeallly shocked me, I was not expecting it at all, despite the fact we have evidence of Logan being violent in the past.

exactly!!! trying to play moral olympics with succession characters is... pointless because they're all objectively terrible people, so i'm gonna stick with my girl shiv!! i will always remain a shiv enjoyer

Same, I absolutely love Shiv. I mostly notice a lot of guys really hate her character and I don't really get why. I also notice that with time and maybe with a rewatch people's thoughts on her are more sympathetic so maybe if these guys watch it again in the future or give it time they'll change their mind about her but I wonder why a lot of guys don't like her so much. I think in general people inherently think that female characters should behave a certain way and we are so used to the opposite happening with men being ambitious, cutthroat, and cheating on their wives on shows. For example, they watch Mad Men and I personally couldn't get through it because of the constant degrading of women that they do on Mad Men even though it's based in the 50s. I'm not accusing anyone of sexism or misogyny here but I do think since we are so used to certain types of stories in society, we kind of have our biases. A few years ago I would have probably hated Shiv but I am more familiar with women being "monsters" in fiction these days through the content I enjoy like books, films, and TV and I'm a woman myself.

Shiv's character is no worse or no better than anyone else on the show. Even Tom is a "bad guy" but it's still irritating when she strikes on the inner circle the way she does. Yes, the back hand was shocking. It's almost as if Logan has been building up and finally exploded.

The Shiv thing is difficult. I still think that her f*ck ups are probably the least tragic. I mean Roman´s first real job and it literally blew up and almost ended up in MULTIPLE dead ppl, he also shows the least amount of brains from the kids..meanwhile Kendall is a relapsed junkie, who steals in his free time and has clear suicidal thoughts...and STILL smh Logan managed to keep involving them in the job over her. She gave up her career for the position that she was promised. And while the promise was nice, lets not forget Kendall was promised too - we saw how that turned out in ep 1...so I do not blame Shiv for the paranoia and acting out. She wanted this her whole life, but she was never even considered no matter how much less probelmatic she was than her siblings. You can kinda see it also in her choosing Tom, she wants a loyal man, coz she feels like she can t win any competition. I mean I ADORE Kendall, but if you think about it from Shiv sperspective, it is crazy that he keeps being the right hand even tho he tried to take out his dad TWICE, and goes to work high and steals for fun. THAT must be a blow to your selfconfidence if Kendall who is a shadow of himself is continuiosly being picked over you. Peeps say Shiv is Logans fave child , but I think that based of how you define a favorite - In my opinion - Shiv is for sure the child he personality wise likes the most (a typical father daughter bond, higher protectivness) , but Kendall is the child he actually has some respect for, Kendall is the one he THINKS has the potential, that is why he keeps giving him more chances than to anyone else. I honestly dont think that if Shiv or evne Roman did half the sh*t Kendall did, they d be anywhere NEAR the office.

Kendall is definitely the most complicated. I honestly think that it would be between him and Shiv. Shiv seems to be the most competent, while Roman has his moments but is not fit. Ken has so much experience but he really is his biggest enemy. In terms of Shiv screwing up, I just think it was about timing and the context in which she lashed out.

I agree. If Shiv were a man there would be no question who Logan would choose as his successor because she is the most like him. People also don't seem to get that Logan plays personalized games with each of his kids, except maybe not Connor who he simply claims he doesn't have time to care about (something Connor mentioned in season 1 which is sad). Logan knows how to get to Kendall, Roman, AND Shiv. He plays into Shiv's insecurities and undermines her often. It's not fair that Kendall gets to fuck over the family multiple times and has addiction issues. Roman is a workplace scandal waiting to happen. Shiv is the most competent and if Logan gave her a fair shot and trained her properly she would be perfect. I think Kendall is Logan's favorite for some sad reasons and it's because Kendall is always willing to get beat up by Logan a bit.

I love Stewy so much, he is hilarious. Each time I see Arian Moayed in the credits I get happy because I know it'll be a fun episode.
