jimmy2k4o .

i wanna say mandatory minimum were passed by mostly black legleslatures, because they were tired of seeing crack ravage their community (crack is more addictive and potent than powder coke) and gram for gramm the madatory miniums for crystal meth is the same as crck and the vast majority of meth addicts are white. madatory miniums are not racist.

Could not wait to see your reaction to "Hi Senator, why don't you take your legislative agenda and shove it up your ass!?"

They are specifically referring in this episode to Federal Mandatory Minimums passed during the Reagan and Bush Era as part of the War on Drugs. Those laws were specifically designed as racist laws by a vast majority white Congress.

jimmy2k4o .

These were adopted by congress after state legislators passed it in majority black legislatures….. And crystal meth is the same mandatory minimum so how can you call it racist when it hurts while people meth users just as much. Also crack and powder aren’t the same drug, crack is way more dangerous and addictive. This is just another excuse to call racism to make other people look bad. You can’t call it racism when it affects white peoples the same. Also during Reagan’s administration the congress was democratic even during the latter part of bush’s administration was a democratic congress. If you wanna talk about presidents and racism Google “bill clinton and Ricky ray rector” I point that out because you’re just focusing on republicans “racism” when democrats pass mandatory minimums. Where a democratic president Al nominee executed a mentally disabled black man to show he was tough on crime. Why isn’t that racist while mandatory minimums (which affect whites people more) are. Cmon man. It’s just simply wrong. I’m not defending mandatory minimums, I just hate people diminishing the word racism by throwing it at everything to try and make a) their opponents look bad or b) make themselves look good by repeating something they heard that doesn’t hold up to any logical scrutiny.

And when a white personal is caught with crack they get the same sentence as a black man. It seems weird to insinuate that straight laws against crack are racist. Maybe it’s not anti-black, maybe it’s anti crack-head. Because again I stress coke and crack are very different animals, speaking from experience unfortunately.

Having to wait a week....welcome to how some of us felt watching on network TV lol. Not to mention the three months in between seasons!!

Mandatory minimums are racist...and she's a fine looking woman.

I believe Allison moved herself from supporting to submitting for lead actress because she kind of kept beating other West Wing actresses like Stockard Channing and Janel Maloney. One great anecdote from Allison: Years ago, one casting agent told me that the only roles I could play were lesbians and aliens. Hopefully that agent feels like a bit of a tit now lol.

It doesn't matter if Bartlet's wearing a suit or a pajama. It doesn't matter if he's standing on a podium, sitting behind the president's desk in the oval office or laying in bed in the residence. The power, the energy, the presidential voice never leave him. It's amazing how he can look at you from a bed, with you standing over him, but still making you feel the shortest person in the room Martin Sheen is a legend

It is not material that "majority black legislatures," pushed through these laws in the 70's, although, I am not sure to which state(s) you are referring when you state that. I don't believe any state legislature was "majority black." There were certainly Civil rights advocates and black religious leaders that supported those laws at first. In addition, nobody mentioned Republicans or Democrats; I merely pointed out under which administrations these laws were passed that were being challenged in The West Wing. And, we are all well aware that the Democrats held the House in 1986 and 1988 when the laws were passed. Every single study shows that mandatory minimum disproportionally effect black men who were10 times as likely to be arrested and given a longer prison sentence for similar crimes to white men under these laws. I believe the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 did help bridge the gap some. Whether intended or not, the laws were racist, and they were sold to the public specifically using race to scare suburban whites.

That's an insane take, she's absolutely magnetic. That also makes total sense because she feels more like a lead than a supporting actress.

The character of Bartlet was literally built for him and it's obvious

Just checked out a book at the library, The West Wing and Beyond: What I Saw Inside the Presidency by Pete Souza (the former WH photographer). You can really see how the set designers on WW did such a fantastic job replicating the WH.

It was a condition of Sheen’s contract that he can never play a US president again. He said in an interview, “why would I want to after this?”

Are you two Pod Save America listeners?
