Welcome to the worst subplot in this show, the Karen and Danny affair sucks. Ronald D. Moore's older show Battlestar Galactica had a lot of annoying romance subplots that much like this one were unwanted distractions from otherwise brilliant writing and acting, though nothing quite as gross as Karen sleeping with her dead son's friend. I was actually thinking about Battlestar Galactica because of your video about remakes the other day, it's a great example of when a remake is warranted. The original 70s version had a great premise that was largely squandered, the 2000s remake was "what if we took that premise seriously" and really made it speak to the paranoid atmosphere of the post-9/11 moment. Ed isn't the only military person on Pathfinder, in an earlier episode he made fun of the younger guy on the mission for being Air Force. We stan Wayne in this house.

The Karen/Danny thing is not only the worst part of this show, it’s one of the most bafflingly poor writing decisions I’ve seen in anything. It’s the one thing that I HATE in a show which I otherwise love. It’s so bad that on previous viewings, I failed to appreciate just how great some of the other stuff in this episode really is. Molly flying up to get one last look at the stars and the scene of Bill and Aleida bonding over trauma are both absolutely fantastic sequences.

It is really throwing me off. I don't see the benefit of including it. If they wanted Karen to have an affair to explore how unhappy she is in her marriage, that's one thing. But her dead son's childhood friend that she used to babysit??

1. I love Wayne. Love him. 2. The Karen / Danny thing is SUCH a weird and unnecessary subplot.
