"The Great Festive Baking Show": The One with the cast of Derry Girls

As you finish one comedy from across the pond, please consider this my big, impassioned plea (for any point in the future) for you to check out Taskmaster. *I am putting in a petition for you to watch the first series of Taskmaster as a “miniseries”-esque commitment, while you’re doing this run of miniseries. It’s only 5 episodes. * If you casually enjoyed the energy of THIS show . . . imagine a high-octane version of that where the contestants are equally if not more charming, but the challenges can be literally anything. While the format stands a bit apart from your usual fare, I think the comedy would be right up your guys’ street! (It’s become a British institution and popular global phenomenon for a reason!) Premise: Each season, 5 comedians are filmed doing a series of “tasks”, ranging from simple ideas, to puzzles, weird obstacle courses, and creative challenges. (“Don’t blink — longest wins”, “paint the best picture of a horse . . . whilst riding a horse”, “get this big, fake boulder as far away as possible in an hour”, “make this Swedish person blush”, etc.) Then, they gather to see everyone’s attempts in front of a studio audience — and to be judged by Greg the Taskmaster, with his Igor-esque Assistant, Little Alex Horne. You’ve already seen a few comedians who’ve been on the show. Nick Mohammed (Nate in Ted Lasso) just did a series, as has Ardal O’Hanlan (Cousin Eamon in Derry Girls) and Noel Fielding (the male presenter in this episode, who famously kind of looks like a crow?). Nicola Coughlan (Claire in Derry Girls) is a BIG Taskmaster fan and did a New Year’s Special episode. Not only is this a fantastic show in its own right, it’s also a gateway to finding other British things that you might like. It is also **MADE FREE TO WATCH ON YOUTUBE IN THE USA**, and available on a lot of various platforms in other countries for your other non-USA subscribers. Because of the type of show this is, you could absolutely take your time with it and, and do a series whenever you feel like it/have a slot to fit it in.🤷🏻‍♀️ Here’s 2 clips they’ve put up from Ardal O’Hanlan’s series, to give you the vibe. (I promise it’s OK to watch — there’s nothing to get “spoiled” about.) A task: https://youtu.be/lr9dW6qFxuc?si=V5XLGVBqVY_7Ulb7 Another task, but only Ardal’s attempt at it: https://youtu.be/Cm3hs7v4RxE?si=uYnwvwgCEyMbf5FX

Won't be able to watch this until I get back to the USA, but in the meantime here's a couple of crackers to be getting on with.: Jimmy Carr - Irish politics: https://youtu.be/kKwZM8TDEa0?si=6YrPP9zFKvwoZQHa Steve Coogan's always-trainwrecky talk show host Alan Partridge meets an Irish farmer: https://youtu.be/lEjEGbAFzJU?si=fUMuVZmziqC1-yiR https://youtu.be/lEjEGbAFzJU?si=fUMuVZmziqC1-yiR As the interview goes wildly off the rails, the song mashes up (incendiary!) lyrics from these originals: 1) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Come_Out,_Ye_Black_and_Tans 2) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Men_Behind_the_Wire
