The astronaut who flies Ellen and Molly back to Earth in this episode is played by real-life NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman, who also works on the show as a science consultant. According to creator Ronald D. Moore, the idea for the show originally came about during a lunch with Reisman, when they discussed the possibility of an alternate history in which the Russians reached the moon before the Americans.

It is so great that the technical advisors on this show actually know what they're talking about; the farther the timeline gets from 1969, the more leaps the show has to take, and people like Reisman keep it grounded in realism.

That's not a Porsche, it's a Datsun 280Z. It does bear a resemblance to the 928, though. I was so crushed for Molly in this episode. She sticks her neck out for Wubbo (sp?) and he quits the space program. Obviously it's the right thing for him to do, and she bought him years with his family, but she knows her own days in space are over, too, and in the moment, it feels like it was for nothing. Anyone who's worked a desk job for more than a few years can feel Margo's rage at being asked to plan a project that management doesn't even want to do while struggling to plan the important projects. That she was actually able to solve a real problem with the vending machine was one of those beautiful human moments.

Good catch! Looked like a Porshe to me. It's hard watching Molly struggle like this. She is a hero for what she did, and it looks like she is going to pay a huge cost for it. Also, good connection on the vending machine! The political / bureaucratic tedium and interference is a great touch of realism.
