My uncle was a CIA lifer. He did NOT talk about his work, but he was out of town a lot. When he passed away a few years ago, my grandmother was still living then, in her 90s. She and my mother went to the funeral home to prep his service. This is the conversation they had with the funeral director: FUNERAL DIRECTOR: And what did the deceased do for a living? MOM: He worked for the government. FUNERAL DIRECTOR: Oh! What did he do? MOM: He worked in intelligence. FUNERAL DIRECTOR: I see. What was his job? MOM: I’m not really sure. FUNERAL DIRECTOR: Did he have a job title? GRANDMA: WETWORK. He did wetwork. Is that what you wanted to know? FUNERAL DIRECTOR: Very good, ma’am.
