SOMEONE GET WESLEY A CROWN

tabii ⁷

23:16 this is random but jungkook’s parents have different religions like his mom is a buddhist and his dad is christian and he’s non religion. he said that his family don’t really pressure him about those things and as i know in south korean the cults and religions are taken very seriously

Chi

The german Word is fremdschämen or Fremdscham

CC

I’m so glad you’re both enjoying this too!! It’s in my top 2 fav k-dramas I’ve seen (alongside 25 21). I loved the lesbian/queer rep in this, it really pleasantly surprised me :) Btw, a chaebol is someone part of a large family-controlled corporate group, some kind of industrial conglomerate. So not “old money” in the aristocratic sense you were thinking, but very vey rich and influential families.

Chaebol families are not only rich, but also very influential/powerful. They own not just regular companies, but big conglomerates with various branches/subsidiaries (like Samsung for example). Keeping business within the family is important to them, they probably prefer to arrange marriages

Lela

Just to add more information for Wes and Steph: I forgot some of the details but after the Korean war there was a time of massive investment in the economy to build the country up fast and so the chaebol businesses got a LOT of investment and benefits from the government to make them able to compete internationally. And so businesses like Samsung became what they are today and the chaebol families behind it have a lot of political and lobbying power and even kind of a diplomat status when it comes to not receiving repercussions for crimes like duis etc.

carocatowr

Chaebol families are basically established rich people, you could earn tons of money and become a billionaire by yourself but you still wouldn’t be necessary a chaebol, it’s more like families in Korea that have been rich for a lot of time and inherited that wealth so you not only get the money but also status just by saying “I am the Samsungs CEOs son”, they could stop working entirely and still enjoy living a wealthy life and a good status for four generations, for example Kang Tae Moo from business proposal is a chaebol

Nele

oh i'm enjoying this so much !! love that these are case by case episodes, so interesting 🥰

PM

Keep in mind the chaebols, they appear a lot in kdramas lol. Seri from Crash Landing on You was also a chaebol. Chaebols are no ordinary rich people. They are family-controlled conglomerates that make up a huge percentage of SK’s economy. Top of the top. You’re from a chaebol family, you basically have control over the nation. Heck it even extends globally. Samsung, LG, Hyundai, you can probably imagine their impact.

KCeeee

Chaebols have insane amounts of money

The end scene with the bride and her girlfriend makes me cry every time 😩

Lela

I was so surprised to hear my name :D It made me smile really big haha Chi is right the German verb is fremdschämen which literally translates to strange/foreign embarassed/ashamed. Meaning being embarassed or ashamed at someone else's behaviour. I personally have a very bad case of it and can not watch movies or shows where that's the type of humour. I can watch horror and splatter but not fremdschämen hahaha. Ps: I also have NO idea what Wes was trying to say lmao his "German" muttering sounded like shorts free to me. I'm just teasing of course but it really made me burst out laughing

Niko

It’s not exact but rough conversion for won to dollars to give a general idea of what the value is would be to take away everything after the last comma, for example 300,000 won = $300 or 1,000,000 won = $1,000

Phyllis St. Pierre

Uhm...I think you just called me old. 😅 I had my youngest daughter at 41. It's not 47 like the bride's father, but I'm usually the oldest mom at the class events. 😂

CC

(I’m pretty sure he was trying to say schadenfreude haha)

Wes And Steph

Haha oh no!!! My mom was 38 and dad 42 when she had me and 43/47 with my sister so I hear you! They always said they felt like they stood out at those parent events. It’s a blessing having older and wiser parents I think

ParkMinJeon

You guys gotta stop spoiling yourselves with the previews of the next case at the end of the episode 😂 as soon as those drawings/animations of the episode pop up you should pause

Molly Clifford

I've seen the dads actor in something else and in that he was like the most endearing grandpa you could imagine, so he really is talented to seem so different here.
