What an amazing season, Gyutaro is definitely my favourite demon so far. I can't wait to meet the rest of the upper ranks and learn more about Akaza!

One thing that is always worth remembering with demons is that 99% of the time they don't actually CHOOSE to become demons. Instead, it's forced upon them and they are then pushed into either dying or survival (eating other humans), Nezuko is to our knowledge the first demon to not devour a human and successfully survive. While Muzan likely tells all the others they must devour to survive. As far as Gyutaro and Daki (Ume) go, they were both born into a very terrible life. Gyutaro as you guys agreed had been tortured by his surroundings and mother from birth, slowly improving his life with the birth of his sister, until she was dying. Ume was 13 when burned, born into a place where beauty equates to worth, and thus began to be toxic to everyone. As Wes said, Gyutaro raised her to be malicious, "take before you're taken from", while the anime infers she stabbed the samurai to prevent him from "sleeping" with her, I've heard from manga readers that she also stabbed him because he insulted her brother. A quick explanation of what actually happened in the "between" there. (Purgatory) The former upper 6 found Gyutaro and Ume, Ume never actually died from the burns, she was slowly dying as the upper 6 says "she will die soon", and even before that you can see her struggle to breathe as Gyutaro finds her. The former upper 6 then offers them to become demons, Gyutaro accepts due to how bad his life was, think back to him saying he'll punish everything for what the "gods" allowed to happen to his sister. However, Ume didn't accept becoming a demon, she outright couldn't. She was forced just like Rui (upper moon from spider arc). Demons forced from what the show shows are usually offered passage into heaven, to our knowledge: The final selection demon made it into heaven as he saw his brother in his last moments (whom he actually devoured), then we see the same with Rui. I'm actually at a blank. But I believe it's inferred that the demons Tanjiro sympathize with are usually allowed into heaven lol Unlike, for example, the lower moon from the Mugen Train movie, which just disappears. Loved watching you guys react to this, I actually got majorly spoiled prior to watching this by a youtube thumbnail. I saw Uzui covered in blood (the moment he screams "Run" to Tanjiro). I then went into this season the whole time thinking he would just die. I also thought each Hashira would die 1 by 1 to pave the way for Tanjiro to learn and ultimately fight Muzan. So I was ecstatic when he lived. As an anime-only watcher, I can't say for sure, but I believe the upper moon 6 in Gyutaro's life story would now be upper moon 1-5. When demons are made they're normal demons, not "moons", thus where Gyutaro and Daki are hundreds of years old I'd assume they become an upper moon and a former upper moon was replaced. Looking forward to whatever y'all react to next. :)

The reason Ume was allowed into the light was because she didn’t make the choice to become a demon her brother made that for her and because she was a demon she had to act a certain way she took it to far but still that kinda voided her of all responsibility
