I don't think there are any villians in Haikyuu. All the teams are just highschoolers being competitive. Oikawa and Aoba Johsai aren't the villians either. When there's some "ominous" music in the background, its just to show that they're serious, in contrast with the rest of the time where they're joking more and playing around.

It was more about the hardship of their training regiment under Coach Ukai. Karasuno wasn’t doing so good but the training seemed harsh.
