Hey Patrons! I finished the video! Sorry it didn't come by the end of the weekend, I have been fighting off a cold (you can hear my voice is a little stuffed-up when speaking in the vid) so I haven't been keeping the best schedule recently. Please let me know what you think of the video and if you have any suggestions for future content! I'd love your feedback. I really hope you enjoy it!

Awesome! I loved hearing about your process and the deeper themes. As for suggestions, instead of a PowerPoint I think doing your narration while playing the game would be cool, that way you can talk about each aspect as it comes up and you wouldn't need to find so many stock photos lol. Overall the content was great though!

I agree that having footage of the game would be more interesting to look at when talking about things you dont have WWW images to relate it to. I loved hearing your inspiration for this game and the journey it took you on, we all love the higher conceptual stuff so even if its harder to talk about I know I would at least love to hear it. I don't know if this was scripted or not but it sounds like it wasn't, for a better presentation try to say 'uh' less and edit out pauses of silence (and i dont mean to sound condescending at all but using flashcards could make explaining the philosophical stuff more smooth). I prefer getting to see smaller updates about little stuff (honestly these could be about anything) than waiting for a huge collection of them in one presentation. I do like seeing that after a game is finished as a good way to wrap it up though, like you did with WWW. I love your stuff man, I'm excited to see what you do next!

Hi! I want to ask... Lips Like Velum is only demo or there is the complete game somewhere?

yames

Hi! Sorry for being late in getting back to you, I've been a little under the weather. The complete version of Lips Like Velum (a game called Velum Children) is being worked on, although right now Discover Our Bodies is what I am putting the most time into, so I'm not sure when Velum Children will come out.

Thanks a lot for your effort. Your games are really particular. Keep up the good work!

Hi, new patron here and just wanted to say I knew I had to subscribe as soon as I saw your work! The "retro" video game aesthetic is interesting to me less because it's nostalgic, and more because it was before my time, so in a way it feels... primordial? And your work really leans into that feeling. As an art student I'd really love to learn more about the nitty-gritty of how you make your assets, as well as where you find visual inspiration - like any moodboards or reference boards, or even art book recommendations you might have.

Hi, thanks for your patronage! I definitely agree with your primordial comment, I think I would have had trouble finding the right word myself, but you nailed it haha. And yes, I am definitely going to try and post some sort of visual asset creation video soon, I just have never done a tutorial video but I am currently figuring out the best way to complete one. As for inspiration, t I definitely am a fan of using pixel art in unconventional ways and I get a lot of inspiration from old game art, before pixel art had a known set of rules/standard practices and so there was more experimentation. There are also many artists/devs experimenting today, of course, a lot of like, post-retro pixel artists (lol) pushing the medium in really cool ways. I think often inspiration for me is just the necessity of having my art assets affirm the mood of the game they are used in, if that makes any sense. Maybe it doesn't I am pretty bad at talking about inspiration and influences lol

I really enjoyed hearing about your ideas that sparked the concepts for the game and how they developed, including where you got inspiration for the visuals. Would love more of these videos. I think the visuals you have in this presentation were fine as is, I mostly listened while working and occasionally looked up to see the visuals you were referencing.
