Every year, the National Association of Television Program Executives, an important organization in the TV industry, held a convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Both Lucy Lawless and Kevin Sorbo would fly from New Zealand to Vegas to represent their shows. And since they would be doing that, they couldn't be filming Xena and Hercules. Every season, you will see episodes of each show where the main characters will either be in it only briefly, or not at all. The NATPEA convention is one of the reasons why. I think both shows do a great job of compensating for the absence of their stars. ... Tim Thomerson is really good as Meleager the Mighty. ... The older guy driving the wagon who gives Gabrielle a ride is the same man who gave her a ride in the first episode. ... I love Gabby's little Pan flute thing.

A great spotlight episode for Gabrielle which is really nice as sometimes in Season 1 she does get pushed a bit too much into the background in some episodes and this is another important moment in her evolution as a character. It was important she face this situation without Xena appearing to help out and I loved Tim Thomerson's guest role as Meleager and the nice chemistry he shares with Renee here.
