There maybe a subtle reveal of jake this episode. Marc and Steven both shared everything with each other before steven died but they still both don't realize Jake is in there because marc believes him and jake are the same person. Jake is subconscious. The difference is marc feels guilty for his actions and has a moral compass. The first scene of the episode you commented on beaten up Marc (the one with bandage on his nose in the doctor office) looks but rewatch that scene. He seems to act slightly different from normal marc even his speech and is very violent. He is the only one who tries to kill. First haro then himself. HE is beaten up because HE took the beatings by their mom. He uses violence to solve everything.
