Darla is still played by Julie Benz. Same actress that played her in Buffy. Prayer doesn't affect vampires in Buffy/Angel because Whedon decided they shouldn't. There's no real explanation as to why. Also, Angel kept the name BECAUSE it's a reminder of all the evils he's done.
