Whedon loves clockwork Orange too. Probably how this came to be. Don't look it up, anything Whedon will bring spoilers. It is the most edgy of his projects but "reading the situation wrong." Expect that to be a standard.

I haven't watched this show in forever, but I don't think it's possible for them to edit out negative traits like nearsightedness or asthma from the dolls. This was originally supposed to be the second episode, but Whedon switched the order.

Yeah. It never felt all that clear to me what they can or can't do with the imprints. The explanation given in the episode is that people need both strengths and weaknesses to be functional/motivated/complete, which makes sense in general. But it's not clear that the asthma is specifically doing much for Miss Penn. That said, the asthma wasn't really a problem. The real issue on the docks was her panic attack, and it likely would have happened very similarly if she hadn't been fiddling with the inhaler.
