"I guess we are both sinners now." Yemi was forced, as Eko was forced to save his brother from a life of sin by taking the gun away and killing the old man. If Eko wanted to live, he had no choice but to follow that life, as they do kidnap child in some extreme parts of the world for militias. The parallels with Charlie are amazing too. Charlie, religious himself, became a "sinner" because of his own brother. Charlie and Eko both pay the price. But if Eko is sorry for the life he led that cost the life of Yemi, does he not deserve forgiveness? Does Charlie deserve forgiveness for being an addict and relying on those drugs? Does Kate or Sawyer or Sayid or Jin? Some are more evil than others. The monster would know, if you pause while it flashes, you can see images of Eko's life, his flashbacks.

So the monster forgave Eko because he wasn't afraid of it or because his sins were more forgivable? XD
