And although I don't know much about the series, I've done my best to match the universe.
You tell me if it's not far-fetched ^^

Natsu has decided to challenge Erza to a duel in the big arena so he can finally surpass her.
And to put all his luck on his side, he took the Habaraki spear as a gift.
His aim was to make Erza's weapon shrink, to get the upper hand on her.
But not knowing how to use the spear and never having handled it before, he hit Erza.
And instead of shrinking, the spear began to grow larger and larger right in front of him, until it lost its amure and exceeded the dimensions of the arena.
Poor Natsu found himself in a strange situation, and Erza remained for good the greatest magician in the world.
