Sakura is 17, lives in Japan and goes to high school.
Far from being an outgoing girl, she's the shy type and doesn't have many friends.
She spends her free time at her high school library reading the fantasy stories she loves.
Her life changed the day her grandmother left this world, she who had given her a love of European fairy tales, especially her favourite "Alice in Wonderland".
While Sakura was tidying up her late grandmother's belongings, she found a cake tin that her grandmother had kept hidden in her attic.
The cakes were marked with an invitation to eat them, in English.
The reference was obvious and Sakura was amused by this little detail which reminded her of her grandmother reading to her what happened to poor Alice when she ate her cake.
Without any suspicion, she ate one of her cakes, which she found very delicious.
But she certainly didn't expect what was to come...
