I've been battling with the venerable 3D program, Blender, for the past couple of weeks and I can easily say that the hardest part of learning Blender is to stave off the urge to play the new Splatoon.

The program itself on the other hand is quite easy to get started, thanks to the many tutorial videos on YouTube.

Above is my first modeling exported in Blender. I would love to be able to make at least simple objects to create a cute atmosphere like this for a typical household in Rughzenhaide. 😌

From Blender to Unity

So I got the basics down and started importing the models I've made to Unity but something is wrong...

I learned that blender models need proper tweaking in order for them to display properly in Unity.

Googling helps but I feel like this is one of those questions that could have been answered and solved in 5 minutes if there was someone knowledgable I could just ask.

I had only done 2D until now and blender is quite a challenge for an absolute newbie. Materials, textures, shaders, polygons... the 3D rabbit hole is deep and even if it looks beautiful in Blender, it is meaningless unless we can find a way to make it look just as good in Unity. The mountain of little rules specific to games that prohibit heavy data is quite overwhelming and confusing. I realized how amazing the technology used in 3D games is, and how much effort and black-magic-like technology goes into creating the visuals of the games that we love... a fact that's hard to grasp if you don't go knee deep in the creation...

By the way, there is no plan to develop fault as a 3D world game in the future. This is just an attempt to make some things in 3D and we are considering using it as a tool to assist in the creation of event CG, etc. We will continue to develop the game on a 2D basis.

Yep, we're trying new things! It's coming along but we just shy of being able to show things off so please wait a just a tad bit more!
