Hogwarts Legacy - HDR Optimized Settings (Patreon)
Content
The game DOES USE/APPLY Xbox & Playstation HDR Calibration app settings.
The game has a good HDR implementation as it actually uses the system level HDR settings up to 10.000 nits in-game...but it still provides many different in-game HDR sliders to further tweak it.
It's also curious how this is the first game to explicitly recommend to turn off any form of Dynamic Tone Mapping in favor to HGIG!
The best thing to do here...is NOT doing anything and leave the in-game HDR sliders alone (as those will automatically change depending of what you've entered on system HDR Calibration app, based on your TV setup).
But if you find some areas too dim for you, just slightly raise "HDR BRIGHTNESS" value from default 25 to 30.
On OLEDs, you can also dim the "USER INTERFACE BRIGHTNESS" to 1.0 (in order to avoid image retention)
BONUS:
For best results with 60hz TVs:
- Use the "Performance" mode with Capped FPS (Locked 60fps target)
For best results with 120hz + VRR TVs:
- On XSX: Use the "Balanced" mode with Uncapped FPS (Unlocked 40fps target + VRR + LFC to compensate)
- On PS5: Use the "Balanced" mode with Capped FPS (Locked 40fps target)
For best controls' settings:
- Set Camera Acceleration to 0
- Set Aim Acceleration to 0
- Set Follow Camera Speed to 0
- Increase Camera and Aim Sensitivity to 2
This will provide a faster input response, which will improve precision and overall feeling especially on Balanced mode.
Also:
- Disable Film Grain: to improve both clarity and contrast of the picture;
- Disable Chromatic Aberration: to further improve visual clarity.
