The game DOES USE/APPLY Xbox HDR Calibration app settings, but not Playstation ones.

After recent patches the game now natively supports HDR on Xbox by leveraging and applying its system wide HDR Calibration app settings. Playstation has no native HDR support yet.

That said, its Peak HDR Luminance seems capped around 800 nits (even if on the system app an higher value is used) so it seems more fit for an HGIG use on LG OLEDs (except for G2 and G3 where you should use DTM).

On other TVs use Dynamic Tone Mapping if available as well in order to improve its HDR rendition.

The game also provides a regular "Brightness" settings which will act as general gamma and is recommended to be set to -2 Clicks from Default in order to fix a slight black level raise in HDR (this will not affect Peak HDR Luminance).

BONUS:

  • Disable Film Grain: in order to improve image clarity.

So maybe i am missing something, but on PS5 Alan Wake does not support HDR? Or should i force HDR from the system settings on the PS5?

I've only tested the XSX version (with HDR support introduced with a later patch) and, yes, I can confirm HDR is not supported natively on PS5 instead... I will update the article accordingly
