Hey everyone, Rocco here- it was on me to get the Patreon content flowing this past week, but I hit a wave of exhaustion (which was thankfully only that and not COVID or something). Feeling better now- sorry I never passed the baton to anyone to get this stuff out! It's all flowing now, sorry for the delay!

This week on Movie Club we're paying respects to some other filmmakers shooting low budget stuff in San Diego! Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been embarking on some higher profile gigs (like with Marvel) and some more notable features... But let's take a look at their first attempt back in 2012, the quiet and creepy indie film "Resolution!"

Oh hell yeah I wanna see that new movie they’ve got coming out soon.

I was scared that Movie Club was coming to a "resolution", but thankfully no... That's just the name 😅

Highly recommend you guys check out Something in the Dirt, the latest movie from Moorhead and Benson. Having seen all of their films, its definitely my favorite, and it's worth watching The Endless before you see Something in the Dirt as they act as part of a trilogy with Resolution.

First movie club I actually decided to watch the movie and I'm met with avatar 2 discussion? Pledge cancelled. Honestly though, this movie was ok. I connect deeply with Sean's 2. The characters just didn't behave like real people, I kept waiting for Mike to become a serial killer or something to justify the sort of detachment he has going on throughout the whole thing. I appreciated the metaness of it to a degree, but I don't think shoe-horning in a sort of eldritch unknowable presence really worked. I kind of wished there was no reveal of any kind here and it left us guessing a little more. Definitely makes me want to see their other stuff, but this one just felt really amateur to too great an extent to really hit the way I feel they wanted it to.

(not having watched the The Endless) 100% agree with Derrick that there wasn't a good "resolution" - but think that was the point. Mike still asks the entity if they can try again, so feels like they're stuck in a timeloop of the same story - perhaps they can't both leave alive because as audience members we want something more gory, more creepy, not a happy ending, etc. Also thought the movie was pretty cool; the shots looked quality - you can definitely see their potential as directors.

Ending made me laugh, super stoked for the Weird episode!! Need to hear your thoughts on that ASAP, it’s so goofy it’s great

The ending of Weird feels like a mega64 ending in the best way possible

There is a part in these directors' followup links up to a scene in this movie and you see these same characters doing things they do in this movie. It's a little neat.

Glad you're feeling better, Rocco!
