It's FINALLY HERE! No, not the Snyder Cut. It's us TALKING about the Snyder Cut. Pretty amazing considering NOBODY else on the internet has done this yet! In Mega64's true groundbreaking fashion, we are once again the FIRST to do something completely revolutionary. We give our reactions (some of us right after the credits rolled) to the film in a format completely new to Movie Club... that's right, we're ALL in person! Star of Close Encounters of the Third Kind's own, Francois Truffaut directed The 400 Blows. I have known this for years and I also have never seen it.

Hey y'all! Love the show. Here are some cool movies of varying quality I'd love to see y'alls thoughts on: A New Leaf (1971), Aeon Flux (2005), Desert Hearts (1985), Edge of Seventeen (2018), I Shot Andy Warhol (1996), Love & Basketball (2000), Nine To Five (1980), Paris Is Burning (1990), Shiva Baby (2020), The Birdcage (1996), The Foul King (2000), The Love Witch (2016), The Red Shoes (1948), The Secret Garden (1993), The Watermelon Woman (1996), and finally To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar (1995). While I was eagerly awaiting this episode, I decided to test out my new keyboard and make a spreadsheet so I could get an idea of what to recommend. Before anyone asks, no I don't have anything better to do. Of the 42 movies covered so far, about half of them have been from the '90s and '00s. The most common year is 1995 with 4 films, 11 in the '90s total, but only 9 films pre-'80s. Only one documentary has been featured. There have been no repeat directors, but two Davids, two Marks, four Roberts, and two Stans. The only repeat writer is Adam Sandler. Only 4 films (9%) have had women directors: Jupiter Ascending, Private Parts (Betty Thomas), Billy Madison (Tamra Davis), and Free Solo (Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and her husband Jimmy Chin). Three of these four have male protagonists. As for writers: the Wachowski Sisters, Babe Pig in the City (Judy Morris), It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (Tania Rose and her husband William co-wrote), Twelve Monkeys (Janet Peoples and her husband David co-wrote), and two women in a large room for Borat 2. These movies have some space for female coded characters. Looking at representation of people of color, just 19% feature writers/directors that aren't white, or of European descent: Dolemite (director D'Urville Martin, majority Black production crew), Ghost in the Shell (director Mamoru Oshii, a Japanese film), The Sixth Sense (writer/director M NIGHT BABY!!!), What We Do In The Shadows (written/directed by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement), The Great Wall (director Zhang Yimou, six (6!) white writers), Ghosts (MJ is credited as a writer), Fast and the Furious (writer Ken Li, three white co-writers), Enter the Dragon (producer Bruce Lee, two white co-producers), Twelve Monkeys, and Free Solo. These are my calculations based on 20 minutes of looking at crews on Letterboxd. Thanks for taking the time to read :^)

The back and forth is definitely better in this format and everyone seemed more engaged as they usually are on a podcast, the prepared and in promptu movie trivia was lacking this episode but I think it was only due to the movie in question and I dunno if it's only me but the audio is waaaaaay lower than usual so I had a very hard time trying to listen, sometimes it was only mumble and I coulnd't make out what they were saying, maybe doing this in the main podcast setup would be better.

^ agreed. The audio was quiet in some parts. Derrick’s audio especially. The one thing I will miss is the phone buzzing into Derrick immediately having his finger pressed against the camera to silence it lmao

I think this format is better. Derrick's audio was just a little worse than everyone else, but not a big deal.
