In this week's Movie Club, we discuss the Hitchcock classic Rear Window- a movie about the nosiest neighbor of all time. In all honesty, this was one of the first movies that made staying in one spot a gripping thriller. But what do we think of it in 2021?

Next week's movie is Daft Punk's ELECTROMA.

(There's a new Friendimension coming shortly too- sorry for the delay!)

Fun fact about TV existing in the mid 50s: In Back to the Future he goes to 1955 and when he's eating dinner with his future mother's family, they had just gotten a TV and can now watch Jackie Gleason (The Honeymooners) while they eat.

Really interesting discussion, rocco's pop shakes really surprised me. I'll definitely check this film out at some point

This, to me, is a movie that I only know about because they made fun of it on The Simpsons.

Regarding the part of the movie that Derrick doesn't really dig (all of the background characters getting so much screentime) - This is a great way to build to the climax of the film. We don't know how these neighbors are going to interact with what happens at the end, but because we know them all so well, we can play along with them. Seeing Lonely Hearts take those pills during the conclusion only adds to the chaos as well as our ability to empathize with her.

Watched this movie, Gattaca, and October Sky multiple times throughout high school in the mid to late 2010's. So yeah after about 15 years they changed the curriculum very little. The only other movie I remember watching for class was Batman Begins so I guess there are some Nolan nuts working for the school board.

not that it changes too much, but I do think old style flash bulbs were brighter and more impactful than the later electronic camera flashes — makes the ending a tiny bit more believable but it’s still staged goofily as hell.
