In 2006 Mega64 was asked to do a last minute batch of promos for the new Splinter Cell title "Double Agent." Just like with their Ghost Recon promos earlier that year, we were told that if we shot them in HD, they could potentially run on the front page of Xbox Live. This was a great opportunity, but time and budget were both pretty short. We shot two quick promos off the cuff- only being given vague information about what the "Fifth Freedom" was (the license to freely kill or erase someone's identity? Something like that?). We shot this video and another where Derrick's neck is snapped (a surefire plan for guaranteed comedy). They liked the unexpectedness of the latter, but found this particular promo pretty dull and uninteresting. In our quick turnaround, we hadn't realized that truth, but we ultimately agreed with them. This video was left on the cutting room floor, and replaced with a new promo attempt- this time, an improvised one-take murder of Shawn's roommate Rocco (which ended up being a very lowkey (major emphasis on lowkey) fan favorite). Miracles from mistakes.
