Jennie is back again and we are talking about the start of Rock and Roll and the legacy of Chuck Berry. Come and check him out with us and I bet you will be shocked about what we find.

*Had to remove the song Brown Eyed Handsome Man for copyright reasons so if you want to hear that part, the mp3 will have it.

The comparison to Elvis was obvious, of course, but this compilation gave me flashbacks to Jerry Lee Lewis - both shitty people (especially JLL) but Chuck Berry’s stuff is way more enjoyable to listen to. So, stupid story regarding Chuck Berry - when I was younger I saw a ‘most shocking moments in rock’ VH1 type countdown and they brought up the bathroom camera thing so for months after I was afraid of public restrooms lmao That and some of his other gross acts aside, I like that you can pretty much always count on Chuck Berry sticking to the same formula that works - and if you don’t like the lyrics in one song there’s bound to be another that sounds the same. (I liked Paul’s comment on the Yes episode kinda saying the same thing.) Lyrically he wasn’t afraid to revisit things either, since he made 2 or 3 sequels to Johnny B. Goode (one of them is Bye Bye Johnny, another was on his last studio album.) Speaking of Johnny B. Goode - check out “Ain’t That Just Like a Woman” by Louis Jordan if y’all haven’t - the opening guitar solo was the inspiration for Johnny’s! Neat stuff! For some reason I thought No Particular Place to Go ended with a verse about driving off a cliff or drowning in the car, not sure where I got that idea but I’m glad it’s “just” a horny song. I like that we’ve had various recordings of Walk on By like, 4 times now on Record Club. It’s that good! Excited for next week, always love Jennie eps 😎
