I'm actually ahead of schedule this week, so here's Friday's video as another ad-free early access.

For this video I decided to explore the Sega Light Phaser and it's connection to a "Zillion" laser tag gun which looks identical. That connection was enough for me to find out exactly what was going on here, and I'm glad I did, as the story proved more interesting than I had expected.

From Zillion to Millions... although a little indirectly. You see Zillion is the name of a Japanese anime series from 1987. This series was sponsored by Sega and related directly to Sega's campaign to try and push sales of their Mark III and Master System consoles. Zillion was also blessed with an exclusive anime game for the Master System, which played a lot like Metroid. What then followed after that was a laser tag Zillion gun and range of toys. The whole plan was in motion for a new Japanese craze based around this series.... the only problem was, it all flopped. So then, how did Sega manage to make millions and indeed, sell millions of consoles off the back of this situation?
