If you haven't seen the news yet, WhatsApp is changing their privacy policy, specifically sections referring to affiliated companies and how they work with other Facebook companies. WhatsApp is still E2E encrypted but is not as secure as Signal due to the amount of shared data... so if you want to take action, you could switch to Signal.

"Respect for your privacy is coded into our DNA," opens WhatsApp's privacy policy. "Since we started WhatsApp, we've aspired to build our Services with a set of strong privacy principles in mind." But come February 8, 2021, this opening statement will no longer find a place in the policy.

We have a group of people in our street using WhatsApp. Should all of us switch to Signal?

Telegram collects more data than Signal but less than WhatsApp, so it'd be better, but not the best. Also, there was a recent story regarding their "People Nearby" feature and how it could be exploited.

I would, yeah. In fact, the Hak5 team uses a signal group for messaging and it works great. Not sure if everyone on the street would be willing to switch, though. That's the hard part.
