While cybersecurity professionals have been recommending app or token based 2FA for a long time, Microsoft is now hopping on board by telling people to stop using SMS codes for 2FA. Microsoft is urging users to abandon telephone-based multi-factor authentication (MFA) solutions like one-time codes sent via SMS and voice calls and instead replace them with newer MFA technologies, like app-based authenticators and security keys. The warning comes from Alex Weinert, Director of Identity Security at Microsoft.

Thanks for that great relief!! I've been dodging SMS 2FA for years, so many sites have been ceaselessly harassing me to get my phone. It might finally be over pressing skip and later all the time.
