I've applied a new setting to the ThreatWire Patreon account called "Charge Up Front". Since I've introduced the discord server reward and need to keep it exclusive to only paying contributors, I've had to keep track of anyone who hadn't paid by auditing the server members. Because of this process, I lost patrons who had signed up but not paid yet, which doesn't help the show or my ability to keep financing myself or the content. I didn't mind giving away free access for the first month, and actually considered it to be a really cool perk, but the upset patron made me realize that process wasn't as clear as I thought it was.

So I've turned on Charge Up Front. This setting doesn't change anything for current patrons. You are still charged on the first of the month like usual.

This does affect new patrons. You'll now be charged on the day you pledge, then every 1st afterwards. So if you pledge on June 20th, you'll be charged on June 20th, then again on July 1st, August 1st, September 1st, etc. You'll no longer have a freebie month up front. This does mean that my Patreon-only content is better protected, but it also means it's beneficial to you to pledge at the beginning of the month instead of at the end.

Any questions? Hit the link on this post or hit me up in the Discord server. You can also send a message on my Patreon page.

When will I be charged?

As a patron you can expect to be billed on the 1st of each month (at Midnight) in the pacific time zone - that said, there are currently three different ways that creators can choose from to collect membership payment from their patrons.

Seems like a viable solution, I really appreciate that you took the time to explain the reason for your change in functionality.

If these people want to support the show, then I don't see why they wouldn't want to give money to do so. It's one time, on top of the monthly charge, and it goes to making a great show & supporting great people. I haven't used the server yet, but I'm happy I can afford to help pitch in to support all the work you put in.

Exactly the way it should be. I'm a new patreon and a cyber-security and forensics college student on a low budget and I give what extra I have for the show because I love it. No one should have a problem donating. Shannon does a wonderful job covering news. (Oh BTW I was having trouble finding a link to the Discord server. Wasn't in my email. Tinks!)

Am I just missing where to find the Discord information or where do I find it?
