On one hand, random selection could give less popular characters or concepts a chance for the spotlight. The number of suggestions would have to be limited for the sake of fairness though. On the other hand, I feel like the popular vote reflected to my own interests quite well in the past. Your fans seem to have good taste :)

yeah, I think it's fair and exciting for people to vote. But I would like to randomly pick a winner again at some point. This would give the opportunity to ideas that are not too popular in the past.
