Progress Report (Patreon)

Another week, another gathering.

Is it just me or is time flying as if a large, starving predator is rushing after it? I can't believe we're in the last month of the year — 2022 has both felt extremely long and maddening short.

But that's not what matters! Yesterday I started editing, and, Lord, does the prologue need it. 😄 It's amazing the number of errors that you don't catch when you're first writing and coding a text. It's like your eyes glaze over what's incredibly glaring now.

And thus I've been polishing sentences, fixing tiny coding errors — there was a section hidden under a numeric condition that was impossible to meet — and, most of all, adjusting dialogue. I try to give each character a specific voice, even each "personality" of Romanus has different tics and ways of speech. That can be something delicate to achieve, and I usually just try to get the "bones" of the speech patterns when I write the first and second drafts. But it's in the editing that I can really polish them and make the dialogues not only sound in character but also realistic.

Or, of course, as realistic as a fantasy game can get. That's the most fun part of editing for me, playing with dialogues and descriptions! ❤️

I have to admit, there were a few times I smiled while reading some of the ridiculous things Romanus says. 😄

The goal for next week is to be as close to finishing editing as possible. I'll also be incorporating my testers' feedback as I go — it's mostly some extra choices and expansion of a few branches, but there's one point mentioned by at least 3 testers that will involve a little bit more work. This probably means I'll slow down at about halfway through the chapter. The beginning, so far, has been an easy breeze.

So, again, the goal is to be as close to the finish as possible! I'm so excited to start coding Chapter One and then run playtest and see it all before me!!! Soon. SOON.
