Maybe a necessary mess, but still a mess.

So a lot of pledges got declined this month, not just for me but across Patreon. According to the Internet, this is because Patreon moved their HQ overseas. Unsurprisingly, credit cards don't take kindly to your charges abruptly going international, so they flag it. If this happens to you, you will need to contact your bank in order to confirm the transaction as legit. IN THEORY, you should only need to do this once and your bank will trust it from then on.

In short, Patreon made a mess and we get to clean it up. I'm very sorry for that. I know it's a hassle, and I'm super grateful to anyone who's willing to endure it to keep on supporting me. THANK YOU!

...

A further note for Stag and Trophy Buck patrons: I'm delaying handing out some of your monthly rewards for a few days, in the hope that the situation gets at least slightly unfucked by then. Thanks for being patient!

XYZ

they didn't seem to really communicate the change, which seems to be why it was such an issue, because people didn't really expect it...unless they lived in the UK, where patreon moved apparently, and the banking laws regarding fraud prevention mean this happens all the time for any number of random things you might buy online lol

SigmaX

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of transparency and/or foresight on this move.

I guess I'm not the only one then lol. I got an email from Chase that said my Patreon transaction was declined as a possible fraud precaution. I had to call them and explain that Patreon is not fraudulent and that I know where my money is going. Furry artists. That's where it's going lol.

I had no problems.

If you are using a credit card you should probably switch to PayPal because then nothing goes wrong at least for me that’s how it’s always been with out of country charges.

OOF, best of luck with that! That's probably gonna leave a mark for a lot of artists as I can imagine there will be a number of ppl who can't be bothered re-pledging and whatever :/ The card I was using for my pledge expired this week anyway so I was gonna have to update my payment methods regardless lol. Love ya, Sig!

Hm... I never had issues with international pledges with my credit card. Since i'm from Germany and not the US, I have to pay in Euros anyway, doesn't matter for me where patreon HQ is located. With all the currency change into Dollars and stuff it always takes my bank a few days to show the charges on my account. I'm gonna have an eye on this of course. Thanks and keep it up! :)

SigmaX

Yeah, that is a likely result of these kind of difficulties. Thanks for sticking around :)

I would guess the problem is mostly affecting patrons in the United States. I'm glad you had no issues.

All depends on company you have creditcard with. I live in Maine. Card I use is Serve prepay card, America Express Card.

My bank just asked me to verify it wasn't a fraudulent charge, then I gave them permission to try again and it worked. Minor hiccough, but as a token of gratitude to what you (and my other pledged artists) do I'll raise my tier for a few months to help off-set the cost I'm sure you'll endure from losing pledges over this. I'd encourage others here to do the same. After all, we love what you do!
