Just as a quick note, since you all were speculating on why the people from Xing were looking for immortality, this was explained last episode. The Emperor has a ton of kids (like 60 I think?) and there's fights about who is gonna be next in line, at the same time the Emperor is in very bad health, so the plan here for Ling Yao is to get the secret to immortality and offer it the Emperor to gain favour so he may be next in line and help his people/clan thrive in Xing (the fights over succession obviously causing some tumult and being a strain on people).

Not sure if anyone Fun Facted this yet, but Envy (the shapeshifter) is referred to with gender-neutral pronouns in the original text. Japanese language, as I understand it, can get a little confusing when it comes to gendered pronouns so in cases like this people would have to pick one when translating. In this show and most translations, people refer to Envy with male pronouns but they're voiced by a female voice actor. A shame nonbinary wasn't as much in the public eye back then, especially because NB would be pronounced the same as Envy in Japanese lol. (There's a surprise fun fact: V and B are the same sound in Japanese, so in the '03 series the country that was genocided was called Ishbal, whereas this series calls it Ishval)
