Hey guys!

We're about to rock DEATH NOTE and we got to ask you guys for some guidance!

On principle we usually aire toward the original version of any work that we cover, it's just something that we've always agreed on..... however.

We only ask this because we've only heard UNIQUELY great praise for the English Dub of Death Note, so we wanted to ask!

Feel free to comment, and whatever the results of this poll are, we still may end up doing the other option once we've weighed everything.

Keep it civil in the comments I know Subs or Dubs can be a hotly contested issue, and I think that great work is great work and with both versions' reputations we'd have a great time regardless!

SO!

Let it be known Patrons!

Oooooh i chose Sub for personal taste reasons, ( I prefer the Voice Actors Tone for L more for original Jap) but I actually llike the dub too, more so than most anime dubs, so its a matter of taste up to you guys, I prefer my anime set in japan to be speaking in Japanese however the Dub for this show works for me (and most people) . and this is coming from someone who has a dumb prejudice against dub, so yeah dub or sub, your supporters will watch :)

Emi

honestly this is the one time where the dub is better

Brimmy

Dub cuz 2 other reactors i'm watching are doing Sub

Sky Sirak

OH NO. They are going to rip this anime to SHREDS and the fans are going to go full fan-dumb

Michelle

if they do the dub yes lmao. i know people are recommending it because of nostalgia and because its funnier but i dunno, i think it messes with the tone. its a little too unintentionally funny lol. They should do the sub if they wanna get the proper context.

Jack Aistrup

Just know that someone is going to take a potato chip….AND EAT IT

Elle B.

The dub for Death Note is one of the best there is, same with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (if you ever react to that)

LJ

Both are amazing but good dubs are just so rare. It’d be a shame not to appreciate it

Kieran Hoare

Deathnote and Code Geass I watched dubbed because I love the dub.

rickie woodson

the one anime outside of sailor moon i'd watch

Mr. Toastman

All of you guys saying the sub is better better keep that same energy. This anime is very dialogue intensive. On the first instance of them not understanding something fully due to the vagaries of the Japanese language, I better not see any of you crying about how they don't pay attention. The dub is completely fine. So many of you claim it's so much worse for purely weeb reasons and I can't stand it.

Michelle

its not "purely weeb reasons", it's a japanese show, set in japan, with japanese characters. wouldnt it make more sense for immersive purposes to watch it in its actual language?

Mr. Toastman

Firstly, I said "so many of you" and I fully stand by that. Secondly, what you said would make sense if you spoke Japanese or were used to watching anime subbed, but for people who are relatively new to anime, there's no need. The reason so many people suggest Death Note as an entry point to anime is because it's a great and easily accessible psychological thriller. You lose some of that accessibility if you have to waste time scrutinizing the translation. The dub does a fantastic job of translating the show for Western audiences without making you forget it's set in Japan and losing the essence of the show.

SeanTankTop

I feel what your saying man, but bring that temp down a touch. It'll be fine. I think despite all our rambunctiousness we don't miss as much as people claim we do. and for the record we put subtitles on EVERYTHING we watch!

Mr. Toastman

Lmaooooooo, watching with subtitles is fine in all languages, I just hate when people shit on a dub just because shitting on dubs is the popular thing to do. There are definitely some stinkers out there, but the Death Note dub is fantastic. Yours is the third group of reactors I've seen this month ask if they should do the sub or the dub, and I've grown tired of seeing the same kinds of people just blindly cry about the dub.

Mr. Toastman

Also, the anime does get laborious at times with all of the plotting. There are some things I didn't pick-up while watching it subbed that I completely understood once I watched the dub, and I want to enjoy your full thoughts on the series without having to contend with dumb or confusing translation choices.

Michelle

thats another thing i wanted to mention sean, if you watch it dubbed i dont think you'll be able to use subs. since as far as i know the dub doesnt have subs. the subs will only be for the japanese version. theres no english dub specific subs.

Gu

Death note never really overly the top relied on specific culture to me to tie the lang , it's dark city/gotham theme is what I see most

Zecxel

When is this airing? Thanks.

I missed the voting, but I hope you decide un Sub, Death Note is one of the most iconic anime ever made and for that reason alone it deserves to be watched in its original language. Also, the performance of the main character's VA is legendary.

Tim Chaos

@michelle depends one where you watch it, but def somethin to look into. I know crunchyroll frequently doesn't have subtitles for their dubs but netflix sometimes does? lol

Sneaky Poptart

I agree to a certain aspect, I missed the vote as well but the Dub is done so well. I re watch this and FMA Brotherhood every year or so but I always watch it dubbed because the VA is just as good if not better (again IMO) that watching it in English is just as enjoyable.
