Hey hey Patrons!

We're back with another pretty fucking revelatory episode of The Legend of Korra!

This is the first real good look at Amon, or as we affectionately call him "Q-Amon" and all of this anti-Bender agenda!

We love love love the idea of their being discontent and a class structure struggle within between Benders and non-Benders!

Why would anyone take a gig from Shady Shin!?!?! Are these kids on cocaine IN THIS FUCKING SHOW!??! And while QAmon is a respectable masker and he is the king of Republic City Florida,  CAN THIS MF'ER ACTUALLY TAKE PEOPLES BENDING AWAY!??!

Our interest is peaked as hell in this really exciting episode!

Love these reactions! Highlight of the week

Eddie Gamboa

So it’s interesting how current events are shading how you see the show. Because when it was released, Amon was a pretty clear analogy to Anonymous (and the occupy movements). But seeing Amon as a Q allegory wildly changes the dynamics of the show, and honestly it’s fascinating

Michelle

also to your point sean i do feel like the first season of korra is the most western-style story of korra, but later and especially in seasons 3-4 i feel like they really went back to a more Chinese inspired story. you know all the destabilization and rapid change that happened in china towards the turn of the 20th century.

People often overlook Mako and Bolin’s personalities and it makes sense why they are the way they are. For Mako he had to grow up quicker in order to protect Bolin from the reality of things after the loss of their parents and give him a childhood while having to give up his to parent Bolin, Bolin is the less serious, goofy, naive guy that everyone loves. But I always remember if it weren’t for Mako, Bolin wouldn’t be who he is in the show so I love them both.

Michelle

oh and even tho yeah this is an american show created by americans yeah, atla and especially korra had a lot of input from the korean side of it. studio mir had even more freedom that the atla teams had. you probably already noticed by now but Ki Hyun Ryu was one of the main directors for all of season 1 of korra.

Calvin Delaney

Bolin is the best Mako is probably the only Avatar/Korra character who is a Good Guy who i just don't like on a personal level lol I know i am not the only one but i just thought i would say it. Also this is awesome seeing more Korra i can't wait to hear your thoughts on the whole show i think the discussions as the show goes on might get even more Juicy than Avatar did. Much Love Sean, Morgan and Dustin and Millie too even though she is not in this series lol

Going on only what we know from ATLA and that one scene with Amon... taking away bending was described as a form of "spirit bending". When Aang did it they showed us a visual representation of spirit bending happening, but most spiritual stuff has been invisible to most people most of the time, with only a handful of notable exceptions. When Amon was doing it on stage, we were getting the perspective of the general audience, who wouldn't see any of the spiritual lightshow. As for the speed and struggle involved, Aang was doing it for the first time ever and was immediately getting crushed by Ozai's dominating spirit, but then Aang went all Avatar State and crushed him. With Amon, he went on stage with full control and knowledge of what he was doing, and was going against people who were not even close to Ozai status, and if this is a thing that Amon has perfected or mastered in some way then you'd probably expect him to take these guys down without a problem.

As an older sibling who had to provide my sister I actually connect with Mako a lot but I see how he’s off putting for others

CORRECTION: The Lion Turtle talked about bending energy, they didn't call it out explicitly as spirit bending.

Cody Taylor

Amon is a very compelling villain. Everything they have shown about the moment so far as really made you go... Well they have a point tho... But i think he loses me in this episode during his speech he strawmans bending as the cause of every war throughout history. But really it more the tool of every war because it's the most powerful thing people had access too. There is so much more you can go after benders for purely on non benders being practically second class citizens. Like they are literally barred from certain jobs because they were born a certain way. But they are still justified in wanting change and to not be held down simply for not having magic bending abilities. So all in all its nice to have a deep bit of conflict going on nice and grey room for understanding both sides

MikeWest

AoT AND Clone Wars? We up the pledge. I think we up the pledge.

amberrr

attack on titan? hell yeah! feels like christmas. boy are you guys in for a ride.

Naga is Aang rearranged

Matt Eylar

Q Amon is super ironic cause I was sure it was said Amon represented communism

John Cedar

I completely agree with Amon, or at least the sentiment of the Equalists. Can you imagine the insanity if human beings were born that unequal in terms of power? That 30-50% of the population just has innate power over everyone else? I know some people are born with others holding power over them, and guns enable people to kill in a instant, but the scale of bending power is something else. In a real world scenario, that would always be a disaster.

Drew Nelson

yeesss attack on titan

Kay

Watching The Boys and stuff like Justice League: Doom, a world with bending and superpowers is utterly terrifying haha. We've done so many horrible things to each other without the aid of innate superpowers, I don't even want to imagine how much worse it could be haha.

Briana J

The references to our current lives will always blow my mind. Bolin and Mako are blood brothers to by the way. Republic City was meant to be like a melting pot of cultures kind of like an early 20th century NYC or Chicago city-state whereas the world during Aang's time was more isolated. Mako and Bolin come from a multicultural family.

ugh yes, no depression for me today ❤️

Thomas Cunningham

Haha "Q-Amon". priceless. Also, too bad Morgan turned her head when Pabu gave his little 'roar' in front of Naga. I enjoy witnessing all the squee from the cuteness of the animal companions.

Mo

All of your comments about Q and stuff is so funny, it's interesting how timely it is and how you connect it with the show.
