Hey hey Patrons!

We got a BIG OLE helping of reactions coming to you from the mammothly long, goofy as fuck, still charming but ultimately disappointing 2020 sequel, WISHMASTER 5......

uuuuh, wait, WONDER WOMAN 1984!!!

We take in this new DCEU offering with Warner Brothers and HBO Max's valiance into the instant theatrical streaming realm!

Watch as Morgan loses her nerd card live on camera by thinking that Themyscira was actually Femme-ascura, discover that WW84 is basically just a Wishmaster prequel, and wonder if there was ever a #ButtholeCut for Kirsten Wigg's valiant but ultimately toothless CGI CATS villain in the impossibly long 3rd Act.

Our dampened excitement aside, WE still have a damn ball watching this movie and if you've checked it out, or want to watch it for the first time with us we are making this available to all of our Patrons for ONE WEEK until it jumps up to the Maester Tier! We're gonna be restructuring some elements of our Tiers in the coming new year along with TONS more content!

Since this is a first run film we gotta be careful with the copyright so you fire up your copy of the film and hit play when we all say go and you'll be synched! That way you can adjust the volume, subtitles if you like and watch along!

Love love love you all and hope you had a great holiday!

Xoxo,

I plan to watch it just because of Wonder Woman. Love the actress they chose.

Gal is fantastic by and large

I think there's a good movie in here somewhere, but it got lost in the edit. I had genuine fun during parts of this movie, but it's such an uneven mess that they tend to get lost. The special effects were a bit weird as well. Diana felt floaty and weightless in a lot of the action scenes. That was really jarring for me because she didn't have that issue in the first movie at all, where Diana felt powerful, like she had real weight behind her movement.

A fun mess is how Mo put it and I think it suits it perfectly. We had a fun time while watching it though.

Best watched with some friends and not taking it too seriously.

For my part I had fun with the movie, though I will say the message was kinda weird as well as some of the morals of the movie. You know the whole thing with that dude Steve was possessing as Morgan pointed out and him making out or even having sex without his consent. I dont think the movie was trying to be insidious about any of it but they really didnt think it through.

Michelle

Also that scene with the mayan dude was weird because they literally did just hire an indian dude, and like they did acknowledge in the film that he might just be indian what with the surname and all with some maya ancestry. But like, why not just hire a maya actor then? Also that whole "the mayan civilization was all wiped off" like the maya indigenous group is one of the largest in America? Idk it was just weird and i really dislike when american movies do the whole trope about "the ancient mayans who are now ALL GONE" when the maya are one of the largest groups of indigenous people in america, most of them still living in the territory they lived in historically.

Right?!?!? and they could have turned it into a bit if they had to do it, like she WANTS to but WON'T because of the circumstances, or just simplify it and make him just appear out of thin air. We never saw much of the cost of other wishes, like what had to be lost by putting up the Wall, or nuclear weapons or whatever the fuck, etc etc. So strange how they over looked it.

SeanTankTop

That's another scene that was just bafflingly tone deaf and weird and the movie seemed to JUMP THROUGH HOOPS to make it a part of the film, as opposed to someone IN A FUCKING MUSEUM knowing something about Mayan culture. But they Rise of Skywalker-ed it and made it more convoluted and complex!

Watched this with a friend of mine on New Year's Eve and while everyone agree it kind of sucked, We kept making jokes about Steve Trevor/Chris Pine wanting to die after having his soul restored back to life without his consent. Her realistically should have just been curled up on the floor screaming shit like, "I HAVE SEEN THE VOID BEYOND THE STARS!! THERE IS NO GOD, ONLY COLD INDIFFERENCE! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" like that muffin from ASDF movie that just wants to die. XD Seriously, he took being alive again (and possessing another man's body and using it to sleep with Diana against the guy's consent) way too well!!

How is it that Wonder Woman was written by Zack Snyder and two other dudes, WW84 was written and directed by Patty Jenkins, and yet it's WW84 that centers Diana's life on a man and makes her a sex criminal To be clear -- I'm genuinely curious how we got here, I'm not trying to bait any kind of misogynist bullshit. I liked more parts of the movie than I didn't, but those two things really kinda stuck out to me

SeanTankTop

It's seems like that might have been dictated by two things. Jenkins and Co seemed to really want to evoke that goofy Superman III Richard Lester/70s TV show era in this. From the vibe to the plot. AND they really wanted Steve back into this movie, in all fairness, Gal needs a screen partner that she vibes with otherwise she comes off super flat. There are some really tone deaf and strange flourishes that only seem to make the movie either take longer/be awkward or both

Patrick Boyda

It's incredibly odd. Also, just as a DC fan, I'm kinda heartbroken that they wasted Maxwell Lord -- AND wasted Pedro Pascal in the part. Maxwell Lord is one of the most dangerous motherfuckers in DC, he's like an evil Nick Fury and Tony Stark, and they just kinda made him a Trumplica -- and a strangely sympathetic one.

"Have you ever made-out with a GOD?"

SeanTankTop

Yeah they needed to thin out the characterization of one of the villains IF we are going to have 3 COMPLETELY Fleshed main characters in how they want to showcase them, one of them has to be thinned out a lot. Batman takes a kind of backseat in Batman Returns so we can basically have the two main characters be our villains. They simply were not willing to thin out one of the major 3 and when that happens you get a 2hr 30min runtime. Even though I would rather have the movie trying to do character work than justa Bayhem crazy action bullshit, but this just doesn't assemble itself well at all. Still had fun, obviously, but it did not need to be that way.
