UNCUT: Dad's First Reaction to Slick Rick - Children's Story

Well done. I LOVE this song. I feel like it is truly MEANT to be a children's story. Hear me out... So, I think, it's a cautionary tale and though it is a sad story with a bad ending and no resolve, it was a realistic rendition of street life. A life that, unfortunately, kids are sometimes privy to. Also, obviously, the dangers of falling victim to peer presssure. HOWEVER, Rick is a humorous rapper, in my opinion (although maybe dark humor). I think he realizes he goes too far and goes a bit over the kids heads because at the end the "kids" have that little discussion which still exposes their innocence. "Oh boy, that uncle Ricky is reeeaaally weird. What do you think he means, straight and narrow or your soul gets cast? I don't know, I think he be crackin up or something". So...maybe it's a satirical song about protecting kids' innocence? (Or maybe I over analyzed it. Ha!) Just my take. I also think a great follow up would be "Hey Young World" by Slick Rick...now that ACTUALLY is a children's story that they can digest. OH! That make me think "I Know I Can" by NAS would be a good one on the theme of "Children's Stories". It would be cool to hear your take on that...NAS managed to make a truly POSITIVE, song for kids that is extremely well done (I also think he was HEAVILY influenced by Slick Rick's "Hey Young World")on this one too...in my opinion). Once again, great review!! Thanks. *Also, Slick Rick is from London and moved to New York. He also wears the eye patch due to being blinded by glass as an infant. ___________ "Never Seen a Man Cry" -Scarface- :)

You know, the original/origin fairy tales of the world were all extremely dark and cautionary! So I think you're closer to the actual thought process than you realise.
