SO glad ya'll covered this! Honestly, Kendrick hasn't been my favorite BUT I recognize his brilliance. He's so smart. Due to my age I was able to pick up on some things right away but some of it is so hidden, it's easy to miss. He actually references the song that this sample is used from in this diss!!! Unheard of. So f'n smart! So, there is a podcast called "Dissect" that does these very deep dives into music lyrics and production that I think ya'll (especially you dad) would appreciate. It breaks things down so deep that it always leaves me shocked on how these artists are able think the way they do and how intense their creative process is. There's an interesting clip where the host breaks down a little of Kendrick's verse from "Like That" which is incredibly done (I tried sending the link but it wouldn't work). It's so worth searching "Dissect podcast" on YouTube and checking it out! By the way, loved how excited Kai was in his seat listening to this. Reminded me of ME listening to this. 😆 ... Kendrick went DIABOLICAL... the beat, his intensity those 6 random chords that don't seem to fit but do SO well...FUTURE'S voice coming in at just the right time! I REALLY liked this track more than I expected to. Seriously, made me respect Metro so much more too. One last thing, about Kendrick's motivation to diss those two. To ME (some may disagree), I believe that he did this because "how dare THEY put themselves in the same breath as me" kind of logic. So, there's this universal understanding or consensus that J Cole, Drake and Kendrick are the best rappers in the game. It is ALWAYS mentioned by EVERYONE , ALL the time. Well, Kendrick may see this as some ppl thinking that he might feel this way as well and he hasn't had his say, right? Especially, when two of those artists "click up" and do a song together (which I don't think Kendrick cared about at all, not being included isn't his motivation...I think it was a "kill 2 birds with one stone" sentiment actually. Which also demonstrates his brilliance). I think he did this to voice his say and set himself apart. There seems to be some peaceful understanding that these 3 are the top 3 and Kendrick could go along with that but he refuses to. He even says, "my temperament bi-polar, I choose violence"! To me, that is him recognizing that he COULD go along with this collective agreement but he "chooses violence" which he demonstrates by going for these two who seemingly did nothing to provoke him. It's hip hop competition at its finest and Kendrick is thee BEST to have ever done it. I wouldn't have said that before this track but this track clearly demonstrates this. Also, one more thing (I hadn't finished the entire vid)...my prediction is there will be no repercussions (probably a hot take...and I may be wrong) from either Drake or Cole. I do not think either of them will respond. I think they realize their place in this and that they can't touch Kendrick when it comes to lyrical competition. He wins, game over.

The Michael Jackson reference was also to Drake beating Michael Jackson’s record for #1 songs

Metro sampled Rodney O and Joe Cooley - Everlasting Bass. its 1988 westcoast hip-hop

Anthony Mendoza

You guys should listen to everlasting bass by Rodney O and Joe Cooley. It was sampled for this beat and a great early west coast rap hip-hop track

Bayou Mic

Everything you said 👌🏾!! With that said , this is not a reach Kendrick is coming for J Cole and Drakes necks! Shots have been fired. Kendrick specifically said “F sneak dissing, first person shooter ” in that song Drake and J Cole said they big as the Super Bowl. Last I checked the 2 best teams play in the championship meaning it’s a subliminal that Kendrick ain’t on the level. Another line Kendrick says is , “If he walk around with that stick it ain’t Andre 3 K,” followed by “MF a big 3, boy it’s just big me”. J. Cole song stick, has a bar about him walking around with sticks. This is competition at its best

Wow! I didn't even peep that! Good looking out. So, Cole is out here trying to looking like an innocent rhymer, meanwhile out here sneak dissing 😆 I totally missed those shots BUT Kendrick didn't!

Jen M

Dad was under pressure trying to think of Kendrick. It’s ok tho. I wouldn’t have known 😂🤣

😂😂😂 now Andre does not walk around with a stick! I think he's reffering to his flute he walks around playing would love to see you guys react to his album would be something different for the patreon.

We'll see. Don't get me wrong, I think Cole is a phenomenal Mc...can he make a proper diss record vs Kdot though? Based on his skills he should be able to. Time will tell. It should be fun, that's for sure.

And that he just did a whole woodwind album that could include something like a rain stick or bassoon

And the fact that Prince outlived MJ and continued doing music for years after. Kendrick is saying his product and legacy will outlast Drake’s even after his death
