Coline

even though i’m not the biggest fan of him, his mvs are always so good

Em

Despite some of his songs not hitting me at all, I will always greatly admire Lil Nas X because of how outspoken he is about his queerness despite huge difficulties that come with being so out like that. When you said how his mvs probably pissed off people - they did!!! They really did! Montero pissed off people greatly with the satan depiction which is so interesting, because he took what bigots usually say to us ("you're going to hell" etc) *owned it*, as if it say "here's what you think of us, what about it huh?". His overall flamboyancy in the music videos, fashion style, and a lot of his lyrical content is loudly proud, but also talks about the struggles - and for me this sincere openness about the queer experience is very refreshing to see from such a big artist, especially since he sometimes does get a *lot* of pushback from some because of it (some of his interviews are a really great window into that). He has a song on the Montero album called "One of Me", which he sings with Elton John, and it honestly blew me away and even made me tear up a little 😅 (tbh I think it's his best song of all time, along with Tales Of Dominica). He takes the "loud gay" stereotype that homophobes decry and throws it in their faces. The "we're here, we're queer, get used to it" slogan comes to my mind a lot when I see his music videos. It's honestly inspiring imo that he took his quick (OTR blowing up), new (at the time) rise to fame and used it as a force for such good, because it does inspire pride for younger, and even older queer people. Welp that's a long comment fvgbnhjyhtbgrfe I just geniuenly love his overall artistic identity and what he does with it, even if the music itself doesn't hit sometimes! <3
