Type 6 Civalization

And what would God say?

Zartren

I stopped listening when he started talking about Type I so inaccurately as to be complete non-sense. The scale references energy exploitable from stars. Type I is the equivalent energy as that which reaches the Earth from the Sun. And then he goes into massive speculations as to how we would actually control everything from tectonic plates, ocean weather (waves) and gravity. Also, we are much closer to a Type I than suggested, perhaps as close as two centuries from now. To me that depends a lot on whether our fusion power generation ventures become successful in our lifetime. Type II civs would have a better chance at some of the above, as they would harness the equivalent energy as what is output by their star overall, not just what reaches their planet. No, no gravity control. A Dyson swarm comes to mind though. A complete sphere would require materials from too many star systems to be viable for a type II. Type III is an even more massive jump, as is equivalent to the energy output by every star in an entire galaxy. Maybe a type III civ would have FTL, at least at a small scale, but it is far from being guaranteed. (How many stars do you sacrifice to allow FTL travel between two other stars? How long does it take you to bring that energy over and make use of it in the first place?) Interstellar tourism as we understand it may never really be a thing. It also means that an interstellar government is just as unlikely. On the up side, such a civilization would be so easily noticeable that we know none exist in our local group of galaxies.

* A Dyson swarm comes to mind though. A complete sphere would require materials from too many star systems to be viable for a type II. It's been theorized, that we could build one, if we were willing to use up Mercury and parts of the asteroid belt to build it, though large parts of the necessary steel would probably still come from earth, since earth has the highest amount of raw iron of any of the planets of our solar system. Complete coverage of the sun might not be feasible with just the materials mercury would provide, but a dyson swarm would be viable and valuable regardless. **Edits for clarification and because it's my first comment on patreon in a while and I just posted the part where I quoted you.
