Loved the direction for how Nami betrays Arlong compared to the live action :)

In my opinion I love the anime so much better

Are you guys gonna upload on Monday? I need to know cause if not I gotta save some reactions to have some good content while I eat or else I won’t eat 😂

Personally, having grown up with OP since it came out in the late 90's, I prefer the manga. The animation has good peaks when it's important, but because Toei is TERRIBLE with pacing it ruined OP for many people. I understand why Toei did it since it's just following the same scheduling for a big anime since the Big 3, but I feel like most people would be willing to wait for good seasonal releases. Oda Sensei definitely could use the rest lol

Anyone here read the latest chapter? I have never cried so much from a backstory of a manga/anime. One Piece has already had so many emotional backstories but in my opinion the latest one had to top them all. ODA is such a GOAT and I can’t wait till michelle and ron experience it all haha!

Overbyte

I thought about that but they took thanksgiving off. That meal was so sad 😂

SoySauce

I heard its really sad. I'm planning to binge the backstory in one go. Is the backstory fully completed?

Usher

I thought our suffering was finally over but oda cooked😭

Usher

Pacing? Manga. Anything else? Anime. Not to say Oda doesn't do a good job

Emil Yi

You guys really need to get used to picking up cues hahahaha xD Nami's face went COLD when Arlong mentioned her foster mom. And Zoro saw that and figured out the gist of what's going on in Nami's life. That's why he jumped into the water because he knew that Nami isn't a killer or a bad person.

KevUrb

I feel like the backstory is pretty much over, last panel went back to the current moment in time. + theres no chapter next week.

Brandisimo

How can you feel bad for Momoo, he literally destroyed all of Gosa and has been terrorizing the east blue lol

I'd like to make a recommendation that you guys avoid looking/reading the episode titles as they're heavy spoilers for the episode ahead. Most other reactors avert their eyes or whatever to avoid the spoiler, and I'm hoping that after this arc you guys intend to do the same, it will feel kinda bad if you get spoiled because of it. Pretty much the same reason it's not recommended to watch the openings until you've reached a certain point in each arc.

The remake of the anime that Netflix is going to do has the potential to be amazing. Early One Piece done in modern anime style? Hell yeah.

Kevin Depoppe

the thing about the tattoo remark from ussop : In Japan tattoo's are still pretty taboo, they are most of the time associated with gang related things. 25years ago (when one piece started) it was even so strict that if you had any tattoo's you had to cover them up to walk in traditional places.

Usher

Have you guys heard about the announcement on a new adaption of the east blue(and potentially more) by WIT(the studio that made AOT s1-s3)? It's insane that an ongoing anime gets a remake, especially after they already made the live action

ARLONG the final BOSS

J. Arlo Mullinix

The live action was really enjoyable but they completely whiffed Arlong Park. They changed Nojiko's and Nami's dynamic and made other alterations that really lessened the dramatic impact of this arc. The anime is going to hit a lot harder and they did remove 'the walk' to Arlong Park. It's a pivotal moment in the series because it is when they truly become the Straw Hats. They also did Usopp dirty as they cut all of his most heroic moments. Usopp does act the coward and fool, but the man will fight to the death for his friends and what he believes in. That's why Usopp has always been my favorite Straw Hat. My second favorite hasn't shown up yet but you'll both love him. He's as sweet as cotton candy.

SomeoneElse

pretty sure tattoos are quite frowned upon in Japan. Maybe its easing up nowadays but there are some areas where you're expected to cover up tattoos and stuff. Maybe that's where Usopp's comment came from

J

hate to be that guy but wheres jjk 😭

The East Blue is the weakest sea, followed by South, West, and lastly North Blue which is the strongest! Fun fact : Mihawk is from the North Blue before making a home for himself on a island in the Grand Line! And in the Last reaction, remember Yosuke said they're 3 powers that governs the Grand Line! They explained the Warlord system which is one, keep ears open for the next two as they are the ones who really try to RUN/RULE the seas! And for Kreig and Arlong, most likely Arlong has been trying to build an empire by being stationary on an island while Kreig been traveling and just recently came back from the Grand Line

Marcus

Yeh it’s still a stereotype, at least if you’re Japanese in japan, that if you have tattoos you’re most likely a trouble maker at the least. A lot of people there don’t apply that logic to foreigners though as they know it’s popular and fashionable in other countries.

2023-12-23 08:41:39 Each group sort of runs there little territory. Arlongs growing his territory and would most likely collide with buggy at some point whereas Don Kreig had just returned from the grand line. Pirates being egocentric though all of them are going to make grandiose claims otherwise your crew would just mutiny and go join someone bigger.

25years it was about due, especially with the influx of new viewers, its a bit jarring seeing the LA or clips of recent fights and then seeing those early eps. But yeah definitely a first that i know having the original still running with a remake running parallel, or not parallel but simultaneously.

DerozTY

btw the sign Nami makes on her poster means money in Japan

klairvoyance

@Marcus though yes, Japanese people with tattoos face more discrimination than foreigner's with them, things like bath houses not allowing people with tattoos still apply to everyone

“The Walk” is probably where I fully started to love one piece.

Gjermund Norum Bugge

Arlong came from the Grand Line to take over the East blue. He has been a pirate on the grand line for a long time and he is the strongest pirate in the east blue. Don Krieg has been the strongest pirate in the east blue prior, with a giant armada of 50+ ships. He wanted to go to the grand line but as soon as he did he ran into Mihawk. Buggy I don't really wanna get into because then we are getting into spoiler territory <3

Yeh it was one of the greatest backstories of all time... Crazy. It is wild how Oda is still producing this level of writing in the story so far in. It is still just as good. Very different, but the One piece essence is still there <3

Gjermund Norum Bugge

Arlong Park is considered by most the best written story arc in the first saga. Especially in terms of the emotional beats I think this is true <3 Really looking forward to seeing how you guys feel about it!

Michelle Lam

haha so true and fair to ask! We will be taking Xmas off and will make an official announcement tonight so you know exactly what to expect!

Katsuo

It's because the trend started with the Yakuza. Back then almost only Yakuza members had tattoos

NamelessKing67

in japan tatoos are asociated with the yakuza and people dont like see it as normal so dont get offended haha

Katsuo

Yeah Don Krieg was the strongest pirate in the east blue, but Arlong came to the east blue recently from the grand line. He is stronger, but Don Krieg probably didn't even know Arlong was there.

Emil Yi

Probably just because I'm familiar with Japan's cultural expressions. You guys will eventually catch on too probably, honestly speaking. I love that you guys started One Piece. It's definitely my favorite series. It gon be a looowng journey :D

Liana Pagodova

15:38 no there is no ruler of East Blue, but don krieg was the strongest of EB, until Grand Line crushed him and no wonder, he was using dirty tricks to become "the strongest" whereas Buggy already was in the Grand Line in his childhood and has eaten a devil fruit. Arlong on the other hand just wants to have the whole east blue under fear and to pay him tribute money , it's all about money to him and to feel power over humans. For now he has this island but apparently it's not enough for him. In the Live Action they really do misstate that. You have to forget everything you watched in the LA and watch the anime like you know nothing and learn about the OP world an episode at a time

Marcus

@klairvoyance, yes you’re correct about that, the rule for those establishments apply to everyone regardless of circumstances/origins. I should have included that.
