What an emotional episode. Can't believe we are almost caught up!

JD

Some of the greatest dialogue in anime features in this episode, what a show!

Jaime

I remember reading the chapter of this episode and I actually teared up reading Subaru and Beatrice’s dialogue. One of my favorite episodes/chapters of Re:Zero, it’s about that time for the finale next episode. Let us know your thoughts about the anime when you two finish the next episode.

Subaru keeps saying he's not "that person" because he doesn't want to validate what Echidna did. During one of the tea parties Echidna admitted that she was simply curious what would come of Beatrice if she asked her to wait for "that person." It would be interesting to see who she decides is "that person" and how long that would take. From the start there was nobody she planned for. If Subaru claims to be "that person" he'd basically be lying to try to steal Beatrice's loyalty and simultaneously giving Echidna what she wanted - an answer. So, instead he keeps saying he isn't because he wants to make Beatrice admit that there is no "that person" and ruin Echidna's game so to speak.

JD

Right, and also I don't believe Echidna was being manipulative either. My take away was Echidna wanted Beatrice to choose herself, and never thought Beatrice would wait so long, and be alone for 400 years

Joshua Lopez

That's the thing, there is no fated "that person" just whoever Beatrice chose to leave with. That's what Echidna told Subaru at the last tea party. So what Michelle was saying is pretty much right.

@JD --- You might be right, but it's hard to say. Regardless, the simple fact that Echidna never displayed (to the audience) or acknowledged (when asked by Subaru) any feelings of regret, remorse, guilt, or sadness over Beatrice suffering all alone in the library for 400 years... well, let's just say I'm of the opinion that her original intentions, no matter how noble they could have been, don't really matter anymore. Echidna was visibly emotional during her moments with Emilia, but when it came to Beatrice, nothing.

This is it!! The official dialogue at the end of this chapter in the Re: Zero Light novel said: "And so began the pair's first battle, one of many, many times Beatrice the Spirit and her contractor, Subaru Natsuki, would fight hand in hand." Beatrice is now subaru's spirit! just like puck and emilia! (well before puck broke it off with emilia in season 2 ep 14) Subaru just got a major power up. Btw their relationship is not romantic, it's a familial love, the same way you would love your pet dog, or your sibling, father/daughter/ etc.

Lye Batenkaitos

Also i love the message of this episode. Beatrice keeps waiting for that person, and subaru said; "I'M NOT THAT PERSON! FUCK WHOEVER THAT PERSON IS!! Choose me!! I'm Me, Subaru! Forget about some random stranger, come live with me in a guaranteed life time of tomorrows!" The author executed this perfectly, love the writing. I also love how beatrice took ALOT of convincing before finally taking subaru's hand, it really showed 400 years of trauma will take more than just a quick one liner to take his hand.

MARMAR

I don't know if anyone notices this but Rice pointed out @ 8:28 when Emilia asks Ryuzu a question a weird noise happens then a 'different' voice responds to her question that isn't Ryuzu's (Just a hint its not puck either) but then it immediately switches back like nothing happened O.O what a trip crazy I missed that after all this time

Lye Batenkaitos

Yeah that does have some significance at what will supposedly now show at the start of S3 assuming the anime doesn't cut that scene.

Merfhew

@MARMAR --- Same. I wasn't aware of that moment until quite recently. Heck, the only reason I noticed was because I read someone's comment on another Patreon channel, so I'm not sure if I would have caught that on my own. I've rewatched Re:Zero multiple times now via reaction channels, and I don't think they noticed either. Very nice catch, Michelle!

Thamor

For myself it sounded like Echidna, it's not like she is fully dead. That another teaparty dimension should still exist, it wasn't the sanctuary holding that place up.

Thamor

I am not sure, but I think you missed the importance of that Roswaal scenes, he studied soul transfer and forcefully moved his soul to his ancestors so all the different looking ones were Roswaal, but he had removed the original soul from it for his own. I am really interested to learn how actually Beatrice met Puck, as it's clear she had to meet Puck before she was stuck 400 years on that library and in the flashback we get Beatrice is pretty young spirit with young Roswaal. Maybe Echidna has something to do with making Puck, maybe even in Frozen Bonds it was Echidnas rules that Puck had to follow for protecting Emilia.

Taiga

It definitely was Echidna's voice. But the only thing I was confused about if she somehow really said something, through one of Ryuzu's, or was it just Emilia's imagination or what.

King Master

ay yo where you got your chain?

Bakhtiar Rahim

That’s echidna voice. As a LN reader, i won’t say anything cos it’s a spoiler but wtv it is, that’s echidna responding to emilia

Bakhtiar Rahim

Btw, the echidna u saw in the tea party & the past are totally 2 different people hence why the past Echidna are much more kinder than the tea party Echidna. That’s the reason why the didn’t show her face during the past. They look different
