I would say Rem more of felt that the book belonged to Misa since Gelus died for her, so he just ended up sticking around out of curiosity as of the reason why Gelus loved this girl so much.

If you wanna know a show just like Death Note, you HAVE to watch Code Geass. The main characters are VERY similar, and the genre is all about mindgames/tactics

If you like this type of anime, then I really recommend you to watch Tokyo Revengers, after Fire Force maybe? In the anime there is also something like a case that the protagonist has to solve and becomes more exciting due to a supernatural power

I consider the genre to be Physiological/Thriller, That's what i call it atleast. Also, Chad Geass is amazing, you should totally add it to your list, but let me suggest watching Steins Gate! It's also a psychological/Thriller anime, but not like this one. Is my favorite anime of all time. Just a suggestion to replace Death Note after yall finish it. Also, I saw someone on these comments say to watch Cowboy Bebop and I gotta say, please fucking do, Cowboy Bebop is a classic anime and is also one of my favorite animes of all time. It is one of those That you need to watch if you are a anime fan, every anime fan has to have watch it, it's a classic. I'm sure you'll get to all these animes, but some of them are just worth skipping the line. Anyways, loving Death Note and watching it with yall! can't wait for the next one!

I really recommend Death Parade, kind of similar and about death and who gets to get to hell and who goes to heaven. It's really short but really interesting.

Code Geass is like a whole anime metaphor of chess but it also has actions like fights and is less "down to earth" like Death Note which is very more purely mind games and closer to reality. And I'm not saying either one is better or worse of more action, it's just a difference. I absolutely love both and hope you watch both

Also I saw someone say Code Geass protagonist is similar to Light, without getting into any spoilers they do indeed have many similarities and there is a never ending debate of which one is smarter, however there is one major difference which makes their characters polar opposites so it's not like they are copy/paste of each other

I recommend you Steins Gate and Steins Gate 0. It’s not like Death Note but it’s kind the same genre. It’s a science fiction psychological thriller about time travel. Just a suggestion to replace Death Note when you finish it.
