one thing to consider when thinking about the power difference between the upper moons is how akaza(upper 3) was literally stunned and trembling just by feeling upper 1's presence and voice in episode 1 of the season. so there's definitely huge gaps in power between the upper moons

Thanh Nguyen

you guys are gonna learn about those marks further on

ParanoidAndroid17

I don’t think the strength difference between upper moons is exponential. Remember, they can challenge higher levels to replace them. If the difference were that much, then they could never have any chance of moving up.

Paolo Vilar

Would have been cool if muichiro was the one who died and yui was the one who survived. Took down the demon, heard the prayer, passed out, hot an amnesia, saved by ubuyashiki residence, only remembering his twin, and carry on his name.

Phyllis

That is Tanjiro's scar he got when he was young that is visible on his forehead. The sun-breathing mark both Muichiro and Tanjiro have appears when they in a condition where they 'unlock their potential' as a sun-breathing descendant/user. As for ranking of the Hashira, Tengen had difficulty fighting Daki and Gyutaro, an Upper Moon 6, was mainly because there were 2 of them who were the main demons and they needed to be beheaded at the same time. If it were just one of them, Tengen probably would not have much issues fighting alone against them. Rengoku had difficulty fighting Akaza, Upper Moon 3, but was close fighting and beheading Akaza. But Tengen have said that he looks up to Rengoku meaning Rengoku may have been stronger than him.

Prateek Sridhar

The mark Tanjiro has on his forehead when he's not fighting is just a scar from previous injuries. When he's fighting seriously, the mark becomes a darker red, expands a bit and kinda looks like fire. (Muichiro's mark kinda looks like clouds in comparison) :p

This ep was def my 2nd fav of this season, maybe even my fav. I think they did a really good job at adapting the backstory, it wasnt super emotional in the manga but was soooo good here. a few things i wanna mention. a likely reason why a demon suddenly showed up to muichiros house is because the door was just wide open (remember it was hot outside, so they wanted to leave it open). also yes, muichiro definitely has the highest potential because of his age and inexperience. i wont say how strong he is in comparison to moons or other hashiras, ill let you guys figure that out as the show airs, but hes very strong. the marks are a bit confusing rn but theyll get slightly expanded upon in this arc and entirely explained eventually. tanjiro actually does NOT have his mark all the time, remember his spiky-looking scar is from final selection and his big, curve-like scar that is similar to yoriichi's only appears sometimes with the burning animation. and yeah the upper moon gaps are definitely present, the ranks are not interchangable unlike the lower moons (rui could have been upper 1 tbh). akaza is sooo strong he was def toying with rengoku.

GojOver

Both of your takes on the formation of the mark is interesting! Excited to see what you think when more information is introduced about the marks this season and beginning of next season!

Oluxjam

Alright so 2 things 1.No, Muichiro did not use Sun Breathing 2.The "mark" will be explained later most likely end of the season depending on how they do it. One thing I will say about the "mark" is that it's pretty much a power up as seen when Tanjiro got it and pretty much took out all 4 emotions when he was having trouble before and Muichiro being to able to fight Upper 5 on even field.

KevUrb

Tengen is my favorite Hashira, but he is probably on the lower end of Hashira strength. In his fight again Gyutaro he eluded to how he doesnt compare to Gyomei(stone Hashira) and Tokito.

DeadLotus

When yoichiro said that the "mu" in muichiro ment mugen(Japanese) which translates to infinity; Mugen train. Its amazing how it comes back to rengoku ahhhh made me depressed all over again.

SirGeel

This was my fav episode this season, if you remember in episode 3 or 4 of this season tanjiro told muichiro that doing nice things for others comes around in the end for you and muichiro was shocked, it reminded him of what his father would say but he didnt know at the moment. To think there only 3 or 4? more episodes blows my mind whats going to happen and wheres mitsuri!!!!!? is she getting a backstory too? with such few episodes left

kirk poss

Its because the demons die in the sun that the first breathing style is so effective.

His Dad has Sasuke's voice

I mean if you read the manga it's perfectly fine, sure you'll know the story but you won't know how it'll be animated. Plus not only do you get manga exclusive things but you also in the anime only anime exclusive things to. For example when Gyutaro breaks Tanjiro's fingers and insults him, in the anime he runs to find a kunai but in the manga he doesn't because Tengen's wife already gave him one when he saved her from Gyutaro when he mixed the hinokami with water breathing. Plus that epic fight between Tengen and Gyutaro isn't in the manga, it's an anime exclusive only

NS

I don't think this is a spoiler. It's more of a clarification but just in case, let this be a possible warning..........................................................: There seems to be a misconception about Muichiro and Tanjiro being related. Based off what has already been shown, Tanjiro is not a descendant of Yoriichi. He's a descendant of Sumiyoshi who was an acquaintance of Yoriichi. We saw the flashback of them in episode 1. The Tokitos were descendants of what they call the "First Breathing" user; not Tanjiro

Antoine Cooper

If you remember back in season 2, Muichiro was the one that Tengen was talking about when he said that are some special people who are able to pick up a sword and became a hashira after a month of training. Based on the context of that convo, I got the impression that Muichiro was stronger than Tengen at the very least.

Omayma

My goat

Ty Keepit100

y'all gonna soon learn why he became a hashira in two months

krisv

As a manga reader ,with no spoiler, i think Muichiro maybe the top 3 guy in the Demon Slayer Corps, so he can fight Upper 5 like this . But Compared with Upper 4,5,6, Upper 1,2,3 is ANOTHER LEVEL, and Muzan is whole another level than the Upper 1,2,3. Well ,can't wait you reaction to the Infinity Castle Arc.

Conor

I started off this episode thinking oh god not another flashback, I just want to get back to the action. Then it ended up being my favourite episode of this season.

krisv

Hey, it's a spoiler to you? They ask about character strength question in the vedio and i answer it, that's all.

RorotheShadow

Bro, don't be so picky. An arc's name is not a spoiler. He literally spoiled nothing in is comment, he just answered they're question

Thomas Juino

The "Mu" in Muichiro is the same "Mu" in Mugen Train ;)

Thomas Juino

"You are one of the chosen one" that's a line that Akaza said to Rengoku...

RorotheShadow

I didn't read the manga, but I kinda have a feeling that every demon slayer can awaken this mark in battle because all breathing techniques are derived from the sun breathing. So actually every demon slayer should be able to get those mark, because all the breathing techniques are linked with each other at some point, but that's all just my theory

Kiing_dirt

You're not too off with the theories you're in for a pretty big shock and a pretty big explanation

Matt Brock

That's incorrect. Muichiro is Muichiro. The Yui twist would have been cool but he did die just the way you saw.

Merfhew

Towards the end of this episode, we heard the inner thoughts of dead twin brother speaking to / about Muichiro while the Hashira was fighting vase demon, and if I'm being honest, it led me to think the same as OP at first. That, and I found it odd how Muichiro came to the conclusion that the amnesia made him act like his brother. I'm no expert on amnesia, but I don't think it works that way. Maybe I'm wrong though.

luquzii

Nothing better than a young prodigy character

Turzy

So to not spoil you, I will tell you something you didnt noticed from earlier episodes. in one scene before tanjiro power ups, he remembers that someone told him about people born with special marks on their forehead, and how strong and special they are. however he says that he was not born with this mark, he god burned by his brother i believe. that's why he has to train and try as hard as he can. and then i believe he gets that scar turned to a mark. you will know more about these marks later on :)

Hussaw

the mark on tanjiros face is a scar from when he burnt his face

heavyweightyoe

Finally Hunter X Hunter 🙌🏽

Matt Brock

Not really, the scar on his head was different. It did mutate into the demon slayer mark afterwards though. But they are "technically" two different things.

Lilo

The ranking power it's kinda subjective when it comes to the Hashiras. Except for the first 2 positions that it's pretty clear who they are and also confirm by the author the rest are debatable. When it comes to the moons is right as it is but yes you're right, there are big jumps from moon to moon especially with the first one. There's not much as a manga reader that i can say without giving mayor spoilers but definitely things are more clear and easy to understand when you get to the finale of the show cause only then it's explain all these family relationships and power levels. Love your reactions and predictions🩷can't wait for you to watch HunterxHunter🥳

Hussaw

what I was getting at was if Tanjiro didn't have the burn scar, further down the line it wouldnt have made a difference due to the fact that his slayer mark wouldve been on the same spot. At the end of the day Tanjiro getting that scar on that exact side of his face and also that shape as a child is pure coincidence. Even in the show in one of the episodes Tanjiro says himself that he doesnt have the slayer mark because he mistakes it for the burn.

Hussaw

yes they're 2 different things that is common sense

James Janak

As a manga reader being as spoiler free as possible, the Upper Moons are pretty clear cut in the jumps in power scaling even if it doesnt show it. The Hashira on the other hand, 1 & 2 are clear cut above the rest, the other 7 are debatable but for the most part its agreed upon who the bottom 2 are as well and the middle is mixed based on preference. I think Rengoku dying early in the series throws a wrench into a lot of peoples rankings because his fight with Akaza is the only bases we get to go off of with his ability as a Hashira. Personally, I have Rengoku's ability ranked higher considering the difficulty of upcoming sequences and how close Rengoku was to soloing Upper 3 in Akaza.

Justin Rankin

I wouldnt say he came close to soloing akaza considering he was being toyed with, only used like 1/4 of his ablilites, and had the grace of the sun coming up, making Akaza more desperate

Jboo

When y’all dropping hunter hunter my balls r turning bright blue

NS

I've also read the entire manga myself. Personally I'd place Rengoku somewhere around upper mid-tier. Rengoku was a great leader. Perhaps the best out of all of the Hashira in that regard. He had the inspiration-factor and leadership that any Hashira should bring to the table, but he was no where near soloing Akaza. Akaza was toying with him the entire time until the sun came up. Even if he was able to awaken his mark, I still think he would have lost. He may have survived, but he still would have lost. I do think he could defeat Upper 6 and 5 though

Luís

They said that it's probably dropping on saturday

James Janak

Lol I dont need to reread the manga. Rengoku is 4 or 5 depending who you are. I'd say 5 but I can only make the statement I said above without spoiling the manga. Defending my point is spoiler heavy and I dont think this is the place for that.

Matt Brock

I like to think of it more like his brain resetting due to trauma. And because his brother was the only one he lived with and was the most familiar with, his brain kind of subconsciously defaulted to be more like his brother than himself.

Wybel

I watched the episode on june 1st as well lmao

Amarjit Malhotra

Not dissing Demon slayer but if you cry on these scenes, how are you guys going to handle the pain Naruto shippuden will Bring 😂
